Prodrive Alcon Brake discs/rotors
does anyone know of where these discs , or rotors are supplied , or where they have had an engineering firm manufacture some rotors to attatche to an old set of discs.
I know that Godspeed sell these but at £600 plus for a pair of discs is a tad pricey anyone??? |
Hi
Don't know where you got £600 plus from , I sell them for £459.57 a pair inc vat http://66.7.200.85/~godspeed/product.php?id_product=84 When these wear down , it's then £325 a pair for a pair of rotors and a set of nuts and bolts. I think you will find no one can beat our price on them Cheers Ian 01656 723060 |

The price beats us but the quality doesn't , price isn't everything ! , we tried these discs before we started doing our own , and the ones we had all warped within a short space of time.
I have recently bought a Golf rally car that has a compbrake brake kit fitted , in less than 150 competitive miles the grooves have completely worn away ! I have taken the whole kit off and changed it now. The guys on the MLR had the same issues , http://www.lancerregister.com/showth...ight=compbrake Cheers Ian |
My bad , the price doesn't beat us either then !

Godspeed, I saw your glof rally car a few months ago at Edwards motorsport and was suprized when I saw Compbrake parts fitted!!
In my experience compbrake are terrible in every way, pay for what you get. I have a set of godspeed rota's on my car and there very good quality and thats coming from a fussy *******. |

Nice one, how did it go ?

Ian,
Are your rotors vaned or more conventional vented? Also is there any difference between the Prodrive Alcon 330mm rotor and bells dimensions and the AP Racing 330mm equivalent? It's just that I happened to have the standard Prodrive Alcon 1 piece rotor side by side with a AP 2 piece and all the measurements I took were the same, 28mm disk thickness, both 330mm and the offset from the hubs were identical. So are they interchangeable? |
AP dont make a single piece disc to suit the 330 kits?? so not sure which measurements are identical??
if your trying to fit a 2pce out of a 330 AP brake kit then there IS a variation in offset |
I've got AP CP5000-210CG8 discs fitted to BG Developments bells to suit CP5000 calipers and BG Developments carrier brackets, I also had the 1 piece Prodrive Alcon discs in my possession at the same time so I laid them flat side by side and I took the offset measurements from the discs/pad mating surfaces to the bell/hub mating surface and both were identical. I never got around to trying it but guessed both would be interchangeable if required.
|
...anyone has any idea what the offset (=total height of the disc) should be ,and also the thikness of the flange with the bolt holes on the original prodrive 330mm discs???
It's just impossible to find these measurements anywhere! |

BUT you have just said you had BG stuff, nnot genuine AP so same deal as everyone else that makes bells to suit this specific requirement
from previous measurements the AP (genuine) 330 disc & bell combo has a variation in offset alyn |

So are they interchangeable? The discs we make for the Prodrive alcon kit has the same dimensions as an AP disc , 330mm x 28mm with 12 bolt holes on a PCD of 203.2mm , so you can use AP discs on our bells if you drill the holes out to 6.4mm which AP use , as its still an imperial size , quater inch , we use a metric 6mm bolt. As mentioned it just a coincidence that the AP discs and BG bells were the same offset as the Prodrive ones , I know the genuine AP 330mm kit for the Impreza has a different offset than the Prodrive discs. Cheers Ian |
total height of the prodrive discs are 61mm, flange is 7mm thick, so my calcs work out the offset is 54mm from the base of the flange, measured mine up at work a while back as planned on finding alternatives which i may have but needs some minor mods to work

this is a picture I found on another site/forum: http://forums.racingbrake.com/showthread.php?t=258 http://forums.racingbrake.com/attach...3&d=1315259672 ...but I assume Joe's brake discs are far gone...:) For the alternative I'm looking at the BMW X5 (E53), 332x30mm front discs,62mm offset,75mm dia. center hole,5x 120 boltholes... here you find the dimensions design from brembo; http://www.ap-host.co.uk/apbrakes/discs/09.8697.80.jpg http://http://static.mister-auto.com...09.8697.80.PDF http://www.ebay.com/itm/FRONT-Brembo...7/290680802574 Alcon 330 mm calipers have 2 mm clearance with the disc's edge, and on NASIOC some people use 30mm thik discs in combination with prodrive calipers. ...redrill to 5x100 and add a 75x 58 mm alloy centerring...and if really necessary ,take a mm off the disc's edge... |
funny enough id been looking at this too lol actually did a drawing for the hub insert and was gonna cnc a pair when i get chance, apparently tho 30mm is very tight in the caliper so that maybe an issue so either have to machine the disc or remove friction material from the pad

I would leave the disc 30mm thik, these discs need a 28mm min. thikness acc.to most manufacturers... For the centers I was looking at some washers, they have standart ones in steel, 75x26x5 mm but I assume reboring the centre to 58mm isn't that easy.:wonder: If you make some, I'm deffo interested in a pair....:notworthy |
well it could be done but be just as easy to machine a couple of reducers up by the time you have messed around with modding the washers,
i shall be making some at some point so when i do will let you know just need to get a disc really to check the measures match up to the drawings etc |
...still busy ordering the bmw discs, trying to have the center rings made,...
but in the mean time here's an intertesting article about redrilling brake discs from our honda-friends...:thumb: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=3044626 I also might have found a solution for the centre rings...these are custom laser cut ...6mm should be thik enough...you can stick them on the hub,and fit the brake disc over it... http://lasermaster.co.uk/metalshop/i...oducts_id=1257 |
...in the mean time I bought these BMW X5 grooved discs on ebay:
originally coming from NBS Engineering, who make the same discs for MTEC ... and have a good rep. MTEC ,NBS Engineering and Mintbitz are actually located in the same building... http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/18045518...84.m1439.l2649 (@ GBP 82.95 I can "warp" a few sets of these discs before reaching the GBP 400.00-limit...but hey, I'm not gonna race my car ,so... :thumb:) |

...got the lasered washers in today :luxhello:
Attachment 55226 also did some measuring the calipers & pads I got, the strange thing is that the pads are the right size (16mm) but when installed, with the pistons pushed back as far as possible, I get a measurement of 26-ish mm between the pads.:Suspiciou that's even almost 2mm less than the minimum dimension I expected...which is 28mm.:wonder: Attachment 55227 anyone has an explanation for this??? |
1 Attachment(s)
discs arrived today, they fit snugly into the caliper...:norty: and the lasered washers go along perfect with the hubs and disc centres...everything's coming together like it should.
Attachment 55228 now it's just a question on slimming down the brake pads a few mm, and having the discs redrilled. just realised if you put a steel washer of 1 mm thik between the caliper and each of the two bracket attachments, you cancel out the 1 mm which the BMW X5 brake disc is bigger in total radius than the original prodrive disc.... also just now heard Mtec can deliver these discs redrilled to 5X 100 for an additional £25.00...mine aren't since I asked them about this after the discs were shipped off...no worries; getting out the big drill bit and DIY....(do NOT try this at home, folks!) |
2 Attachment(s)
have I been busy during the weekend ...?
see the result and decide yourself! Attachment 55229 Attachment 55230 so, the pads fit, and the discs are redrilled... still to follow : a new coat of paint & stickers...on the calipers,of course. and then...fitting all of it. |
I'm sorry but I would never dream of running them discs on my car !
Your happy to run discs drilled like that are you ? the holes have cut into the existing holes , you going to run a dangerous set up to you and other road users to save some money on a botch job ? You will also run into problems fitting a 30mm wide disc into a caliper thats only designed for a 28mm thick disc , you will never get it to run without the disc scraping on the caliper , there is no gap to speak of between them both. |
WTF
Good luck pressing the brake pedal with that mess :eek2: |
