Opinions on this 'Spec C' V5 STi For Sale

Is it worth a punt? Looks an interesting combination - to my eyes anyway. What do you guys think?

Impreza STI V5 - twin scroll spec c conversion***! (1999)

Over the last few years I've been working abroad during the week, so the car has either been in storage (Garaged) and just "the" weekend runabout, so she is in Very Good Condition.

Its had an interesting history under my ownership, and its specification is as follows:
- Sti v8 Short block engine
- Sti Spec-C Twin Scroll turbo + Exhaust system. Spec-C equal length headers, Spec-C Oil sump.
- Sti v8 larger intercooler and bonnet scoop
- Sti v5 heads (ported), with Stainless Steel Black Nitrided Valves
- Uprated RCM Oil Pump
- Uprated injectors 550cc
- Uprated Exedy Clutch
- ARP Stud kit
- Uprated Exedy Lightened Flywheel
- Spec-C Quick steering rack
- Oil catch can
- Boost, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Exhaust gas temp gauges.
- Knocklink
- The mileage is actually lower than the listed one - due to the engine change.
- EcuTek Remap by Bob Rawle
- powerstation bump steer mod
- uprated drop links
- uprated fuel pump
- Braided brake hoses (dot5.1 fluid)
- anti lift kit
- whiteline strut brace
- Spare set of 16" gold subaru alloys wheels, with Kuhmo tyres in tyre bags!

Now the standard stuff:
- 4 door saloon
- Gun Metal grey
- Sti decals (seats etc)
- Sti V5 rear wing
- Air Conditioning
- 17" Subaru allows (2001 type) with Goodyear F1 tyres
- Serviced April 2011
- Recently taxed (until April 2012) & recent MoT (April 2011)
- Subaru floor mats
- The lovely Japanese AddZest stereo ;)
- Tracker Monitor
- Cat 1 Cobra Alarm & Immobliser.

Mileage - approx 69000miles
Registered in the uk - 2000
Price = £5000 ono

Not a bad price, would have been worth a lot more if he had done all that to a Type R though.

Only things that could have been done (may need to be done): bigger brakes; uprated diff; better gearbox.

I'm guessing power output at around 330?

dantastic 26 April 2011 10:14 AM

Its not and never will be a spec c, putting a few bits from a spec c on a car doesn't make it a spec c,
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this car as i don't know it and have not seen it, but a spec c it ain't.:nono:

The ad reads to me that it's had a Spec C engine fitted noting more. It doesn't imply it's a spec C..

Kevin_STI 26 April 2011 10:48 AM

It's registered as a GL on HPi and engine number is 20663983 :wonder: however it is clear :thumb:

It's nothing to do with a Spec c (Competition) which took over from the demise of the RA (Race Altered) at the time of the launch os the series II bug.

It's a Classic with a twin scroll turbo set up and it really needs a six speed box to cope LOL

The add doesn't say its had a full spec c engine fitted, its had, twin scroll turbo headers exhaust oil pump and steering rack from a spec c that's all.:wonder:

Brun 26 April 2011 11:21 AM

Is that not close enough to a Spec C engine? Genuine question?

Shaun 26 April 2011 12:05 PM

It's missing a vital part..... the flaming VVT heads! :D

Brun 26 April 2011 12:08 PM

Shows you what i know :D

In all honesty i think its a perfectly genuine add for a classic with a twin scroll turbo conversion, but using the wording "spec c conversion" although not intending to deceive anyone, or misrepresent what this car actually is, could unintentionally do so to someone with little or no knowledge of Subaru's.

What about the model being listed as 'GL'. Does this mean it's not a STi?

53 26 April 2011 02:46 PM

It's not a wagon, so meh ! :D

:lol1:

I'm losing hope at finding a nice wagon

I've decided not to go back to a JDM either - they do fast too well

So, I'm thinking Type R/P1 with twin scroll 2l new age JDM 6 speed (dream mode on)

Nope... nothing to worry about. It's the way that many Impreza Imports were registered by the DVLA.
