Time to buy another Impreza ... help ...

I've had classics since 1998. And will soon be selling my beloved STi 6. Have toyed with Evo ownership, but will be staying with Imprezas. Unfortunately I know a lot about the classic, but very little about the new age variety (2001+). Am looking for a car circa 20k miles on the clock, that is not a blob-eye nor the most recent shape and it has to be an STi again. What I'm confused about is

1) What's the differences between model-year (2002 through to 2007)
2) Type UK vs. JDM differences
3) Also, think I want the 2.0 variety rather than 2.5 given the pros/cons I've read so far. Think this limits me to JDMs from about 2005??

Budget is up to £16k. Would be nice if there were some engine upgrades also made, but want "tasteful/proper" mods. Have read a bit about the Type 20. Are they reliable?

Any buying advice or information pointers much appreciated.

Thanks
James

i would defo be looking at jdm rather than uk, for that money you could get a spec c , stronger 2.0 litre engine, twin scroll etc etc

I just bought a 2006 Type 20 - thoroughly recommended! Pretty rare though, so another option might be to buy a JDM STi from PCM ("juggers" on here) or Litchields and map and exhaust it if that's not already been done - c £1500 more.

Tony Burns shall be checking in later to provide a bit more detail, eh Tony? ;)

PS. Having said that, I think there may be a Type 20 in "Subarus For Sale" on here.....

A JDM hatch is also a 2 litre if you want to be controversial...

LoL
