Caliper Paint.. does it have to be high temp? or any special formula?
 

or could i get some paint mixed up and spray them on?

wanting to do them a bright liquid yellow, but cant find the colour i want in high temp paint. looks like it'll have to be custom?

any ideas? or even pics/info of ones uve already done?

no mate normal 2pac paint is fine if your getting it mixed. I ask godspeed and he said he just uses that on all his refurbs as the caliper is effectively liquid cooled. Did mine a while ago now with halfords green spraypaint and then lacquered them in high temp lacquer and still fine

I did mine ages ago and i just used some halfords Matt black spray paint as i thought the proper caliper paint was way too expensive,i havent had a problem at all just did a few layers,
went from this

as i said im sure people will say to use the proper stuff but i havent had any problems

prep,prep and more prep, the more prep the longer the paint will last, as mentioned it doesnt need to be special.

Really good stuff to use is Hammerite Smooth: easy to brush on, leaves hardly any brushmarks, dries fast, two coats per caliper over an hour and you're done.

Best of all, it DOES come in a nice bright YELLOW!

Only small downside is you need to buy some Hammerite thinners too, since the normal stuff won't touch it. But a small can of Hammerite does all four calipers with some over to retouch in two years or so.

Did u guys have to take the calipers off to do the job or paint them in situ?

Normal 2k paint's should be ok. iI had the same issue mate. but i thought "what about when the sun bakes the bonnet"

I've painted several sets on cars, ranging from my first ones to those on the lad's Clio 197 Sport. No probs, no brushmarks and the bits you can't get at, you can't SEE anyway, so why bother?

I've also done my STi Brembo rears OFF the car, again, no probs, brushed and hung up to dry.

In fact, painting OFF the car is harder, as ON the car you don't handle them, nothing touches them, so they can have the wheel refitted and be left to harden off.
OFF the car, you have to give them a day or so to harden off, and if you catch the paint when refitting.....:(

Cheers for that guys, these are new ap racing brakes i'll be fitting to replace my brembos. i thought i'd do them while their off the car in liquid yellow. should go well with the black car and wheels and then take the rear brembos off and do them on one weekend.

alcazar, do you have any pics of that bright yellow hammertie smooth do? if its not the right colour, i'll just get some mixed up by local paintshop :)

No mate, I just happened to spot a tin when I was in the local carshop buying some black.

Just been on their site and they don't list it anymore, but there WAS some in that carshop.

I've used jenolite's equivalent of hammerite on calipers before, no problems at all, used some halfords caliper paint on the current car and the finish was significantly inferior and much less hard wearing:wonder:

i always use hammerite smooth finish!

I wonder if those jars of enamel would do a good job?
