It's not arrogance fella, standard vs standard the STi is the better car & faster too of course ... in classic trim it's 215hp vs 276hp ffs!

Brun 23 April 2011 09:36 PM

276 on Jap fuel and 215 on 95 ron ;)

To be honest there is a fair bit of that with WRX and Sport owners as well. Ive been on the receiving end of a few rude comments where WRX owners have felt the need to big themselves up by putting those with sports down.

Terminator X 23 April 2011 09:37 PM

99ron is pretty damn close to 100 :lol1:

You don't have to be loaded to have an sti! Its just personal opinion.

maydew 23 April 2011 09:41 PM

gearing in wrx is better suited to road sprint,it is sti arrogance mate as said above wrx is looked upon as "the peasents model and sti will nail it" 225 and 265bhp aint gonna make that much difference on the road to brag about.

Not if you have a 6 speed !

Your joking right? :cuckoo:
The gearing is too long, the wrx has more of a cruising gear setup, the STI has a closer (and better) ratio'd box for road sprints as the engine is always in the power band.

Tony:)

andyseston 23 April 2011 09:44 PM

so if you raced a wrx against a sti classic and evo 6 i take it the wrx will win.
i have a std sti and my mates evo are on par and wrx are no where to be seen.

Paul Hutch 23 April 2011 09:45 PM

If somebody came up to you and offered you an 05 wrx or an 05 sti which would you choose? I no whati would choose MAYDEW you tatty windsock

maydew 23 April 2011 09:47 PM

jgm runs my old sti and changed it to 5 speed straight cut with his words the gearing is now like your wrx .

Exactly. I heard of some women having penis envy but wrx owner's with sti envy is just to funny.
There both nice cars but the sti is more the performance car..period !

Well it has to be a classic as no one in their right mind would replace a 6 speed with a 5 speed ;) and if he has gone for a straight cut box for strength then it will still be too long, hence the likes of the classic STI type R and RA have close ratio boxes with a top end of 155mph compared to a UK classic with 167mph top end (to the red line), and I can tell you that makes a hell of a difference.

Tony:)

What you think because a bloke is 58 he doesnt like a spirited drive :lol1::lol1:. The fact he owned an impreza should tell you something about this old boy :hjtwofing

Wmscooby 23 April 2011 09:54 PM

As Maydew says not much in them. Again i have owned both i loved the 5 speed box but they break with abuse. Whereas the sti 6 speed is strong as you like but i found myself constantly on the gears compared with the 5 speed wrx

the sti will beat a standard wrx but not everyone wants an sti,

me i have a wrx sl as thats what i wanted, something differnet,

but i know that most sti's wont get away from me that easily

Paul Hutch 23 April 2011 09:56 PM

I wouldn't waste 9k on a wrx with a 58 year old bloke who will have never polished it and probably didn't even no where to check the oil. Id rather spend 9k on a sti blob with more miles on. In fact you can get one for 7.5k with 30000 miles, point proven ta ta champ

I agree about the gearing there fella.....Two friends have classics running circa of 400bhp and both do a lot of trackdays. One uses 6 speed the other PPG with UK gearing....IMO and the guy who runs the 6speed box, admit the UK gearing is better suited for track.

Brun 23 April 2011 09:59 PM

.....to make 215 bhp. Put 99 in and you will be closer to the STi which apparently would be somewhere down the road!

never seen rain or winter

subaru extra underseal service done

cambelt even done last year
