Scooby Sport tweaks - Stage 2

Following on from the 1st stage of tweaks, the next stage is happening this weekend. This is all about the noise and the search for the 'burble' that is sorely missing from the sport as standard.

It dod not help that my entire exhaust system was rusted through and was blowing like a ******* :(

This is what I was dealing with

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...t/IMG_5427.jpg

So decided to get rid of it all and swap it out for something better.

Cobra backbox and centre section/Decat section

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/f2a1f0ca.jpg

And then to finish it off and gain some of that lovely noise, the headers are being swapped

So will see what this brings :thumb:

I've never seen Sport decated exhaust, looking nice and hopefully bring some ponies/bhp.
Stage 1 looking good and Stage 2 will more orientated on BHP?

Good luck,matey:thumb:

It is not something I wanted to do in one big hit because it cost far too much and I didnt want to start forking out but when the rear diff was replaced the true state of the full system came to light. When your mechanic is afraid to even go near it for fear of it falling apart in his hands, you know its bad

And it kind of snowballs from there.

The headers is more about the noise than about replacing worn parts.
I am going to take some sound bites before and after to see the difference :thumb:

sunny1989 21 April 2011 11:41 PM

where did you purchase the system from mate? I'm after a similar system for my sport daily driver albeit with a smaller tailpipe..

I've already got a borla rep uel manifold on her, just need a nice catback system now!

SwissTony 21 April 2011 11:47 PM

Got it from exhaustsuk. Called them up and made a deal with them for the lot because separately they would have been a big spend. Just got to catch them on a good day :D

You can choose your tailpipe,I went for the smaller 4" as I didnt want to go down the huge can route so the rolled inner look suited the car better I thought

ditchmyster 22 April 2011 01:28 AM

Ah mr tony, i see we are at the thin end of the wedge, i'm just waiting for the how to bolt a turbo onto a sport thread. lol

Nope, never going to happen :lol1:

Its a sport at the end of the day for a good reason , not chasing BHP

Carlh 22 April 2011 08:12 AM

Def youtube a soundbite and put it up mate, my buddy has a Sport and wants to get the burble out of it. :)

sunny1989 22 April 2011 08:49 PM

Cheers!

I'll check them out, I'll look forward to hearing it..that'll be the decider I reckon!

The 4" is nice and modest, any larger would just look ridiculous on mine. Think I'll go for a resonated centre section though, can't be doing with any droning

sensible and its all about the torque anyways, transforms a daily driver, not sure how this mod effects a sport but surely cant be bad

SwissTony 26 April 2011 08:16 AM

Right, for all those guys who were wondering what the system looks like once it is on, this is the before and after shots.

Centre section after

Cat section before
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/8715cb39.jpg

Cat section after
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/fc156c5b.jpg

Headers before (yes there was an oil leak from the sump as well )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/2a3dd4eb.jpg

Headers after (oil leak fixed :D )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/425457b5.jpg

All in all a great system from front to back. Still getting used to the difference and will report back how well it copes on motorways and town driving in terms of noise, drone etc. If it is too noisy, I shall swap out the centre section for something with a resonator.

It does sound great though :thumb:

Now for all of those who wanted to hear the difference, here are some sound files before and after. And yes some of the before sounds make you think I had a diesel tractor. It was the backbox blowing !

nice bit of pipework you have. what make is the downpipe. iv a borla rep on mine and its cracked and fancy a change.. by the way if you spend your time and a bit of money its easy to get the sports running around the 170bhp without any problems to the engines:luxhello:

f1_fan 26 April 2011 10:36 AM

Well at least you have just doubled the value of the car!

SwissTony 26 April 2011 01:18 PM

Not far wrong there :)

jura11 26 April 2011 02:00 PM

Really nice sound with this new system,i really like.
Good job:thumb:

Well no downpipe as such because it is a sport :) but if you mean the pipe coming from the headers to centre section ? That is a cobra decat section

ScuuBdoo 26 April 2011 02:08 PM

Holy God, it did sound like a tractor!

Sounds great now though.

SwissTony 26 April 2011 02:11 PM

Apologies for the need to download the sound files, tried to whack them on youtube but it does not like sound files without video.

The difference in sound is night and day

Arkynsei 26 April 2011 02:26 PM

Whoa wow! What an improvement! Not only in looks but sound as well! Incredible!

Is it a classic sport? Would you mind telling me how much all of that roughly cost? Sounds incredible. After turning my 2006 2.0r on.. it sounds a little lackluster now :P

SRSport 26 April 2011 09:19 PM

I have the same as the same car as you and when I went to a shell garage and bumped into a fellow R sport owner he showed me his with a Prodrive backbox. I felt like that man on TV advertisng mobile phones on a stallion that turns into a limp donkey when his mate turns up with one. It took me a couple of months to track one down and it sounds much better. For me it is perfect, it makes heads turn before I get to them but not from a mile off.

Stage 3 - a little tweak to the side skirts

Old black ones

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/be338ed1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/4b1e2456.jpg

New colour coded ones. Absolute bugger to do as 4 of the screws/bolts just sat there spinning in the sills  But got there in the end
Will probably get rid of the Impreza decals at some point

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/d6bd638c.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...s/9547afb2.jpg

Then a touch of cleaning. Now door sills always get overlooked but not today :)

Manky door sills front and back with the original factory grease caked on them

Degreaser, loads of brushes and a jetwash and this is what you get :thumb:

Wheels will be done in about a few months time if funds allow. Good choice on the backbox, sounds the nuts :thumb:

front bumper needs sorting, looks like it has cleft lip :)

It does :lol1:

Again it might be sorted once I replace my rusty bumper bar which I have now been given by a mate and painted it at the weekend. Once that is fitted, I shall purchase a heat gun and see if I can coax the dent back into shape. Far cheaper if it works than replacing the bumper !

Next up is a spot of home painting . Will attempt to do my wedges, rear bumper skirts and my missus' front bumper. Have got all the paint and primer, just need to teach myself how to do it :D

scooberuni 29 May 2011 01:06 AM

Nice work with the exhaust Tony.
Your vids are no longer available now
though so I don't know if it sounds
any good or not.
