rear wheel arch repair section (rusty arches)
 

With no rear qtr stock availiable to Subaru + a retail cost of £386 a side. I have commisioned a pair of repair sections for classic impreza. These will be availiable from the end of may.
These will join just above the sil run up the inner door shut and accros to the rear bumper. They will be formed with all folds and inner lips complete as well as a stepped edge for seemless join.

Would anybody else be interested ? As may be able to get cost down with a bigger order. Cost is tbc but would be in the region £100 a side.

how come there that much?
im sure you could sell a good few if they where not to dear.

I paid in the region of £30 a side for some rear quarters for a Cav GSI about 7/8 years ago.

Would have thought there would be pattern parts available, given the age of classics?

I was quoted £200 to do both sides, inc spraying.

The body shop or supplier who can make good rear wheel arches for subarus will make a fortune with every classic (yes including my one owner pampered modle) rusting at the rear arches

rust is not mentioned much non scoobynet but we have to face up to it the classics are rusting

£200 is a good price for a repair I would imagine there will be lots of variations up and down the country

Not even a bit of rust in my 96 classic prodrive although it did spend half its life in a heated garage!:)

Not sure if this is true or not, but I was told that ANY, even slight, rear collision moves the bumper and it's that top fixing at the front edge that gets shifted, breaking the rust-proof seal around it, with the result that it starts to rust from the INSIDE?

Mine DID start the year after I had a knock on that corner:(

mines is in on tuesday - im 400 for the four corners and a cpl of trolley bumps in the doors - please god let it be a good job

Tbho its just sweating and water/salt from the road that gets up between the panels that starts the ball rolling in most case's.
You would be shocked at how much mud/water can get up inside a sill/arch panel as i've cut many rust patches out of various vehicles and found it to be in some cases almost completely crammed full with it so its is inevitable it will rust away over time!

Maybe not that shocked Ryan. I'm old enough to remember cars like the MkII Escorts, which had NO arch liners and NO rustproofing. The silt/grit/salt and stuff lodged up behind the headlight and was almost permanently damp, a perfect area for rust:(

On my RS Mexico, the front o/s headlamp support and top of the front wing rusted almost completely away:(:(

I know what you mean Jeff,it can also be down to a simple design fault like a 03 plated mazda MX5 i just had in for a section of the sill to be replaced due to the inner and outer sills being spot welded together at the rear of the sill and Mazda not being able to get rust proofing[wax] down at it from the factory thus leading to it being rusted completely through in under 7 years:(

with regards too these wheel arch repair kits, i am after a set and have scoured the net for weeks, and much to my joy scooby clinic sell them...

after my friend had a very highly regarded sprayer (sprayed a few high end jap show cars in his time) repair his rear arches and done a full respray only for the rust too bubble through a couple of months later, i think it would be best to have arch repairs fitted and sprayed in.

then fingers crossed there should be no need to come back months/years down the line.

Those from Scoobyclinic look like fibreglass? If they are, I'd avoid them;)

Scooby clinics repair sections are made of fiberglass. The 59.99 cost does not include vat or delivery. So works out to be £99 aside. Most body shops will only change rusted metal in the affected areas and not
the whole section. Fitting a whole repair section gives u a fresh start. Gets all the old metal out and reduces the use of filler.

Agreed, but I'd STILL not go f/glass.

I wouldn't use f/glass either, hence the reason for having the panels made.

I'd be interested in a set, definitely need the offside one already.

Better if the price was a bit lower though.

I know a couple of lads with bodyshops, and the manager of one national, so I'll sound them out too.

Maybe others could do the same? There MUST be more than a few classics needing this repair now?

I've forgotten how many classics I've repaired the rear arches on now.

Not a nice job TBH, and usually involves repairs to the inner arch as well.

£100 for a replacement panel is reasonable IMO.

Ill have one for my off side. Keep us posted.

I've got the fiber glass one's we do fitted to my type R, no fitment issues and they will never rot again!
