Hawkeye back box
I have just got a 2006 hawkeye wrx, at the moment i can only afford a back box for it and would like some advice on which one to buy, i am after cheap and loud preferably....i have been looking on cobra sport which seem to be reasonably priced. Has anyone used or heard in action the rear section pipe? which is just a pipe and tailpipe tip with no silencer?

Blitz Nur Spec S..... Nuf said
There's a couple of RB320 owners running the Nur Spec S, which is just the back box. Sounds sweet! |
There are usually plenty on flea bay, all newage 2001 on will fit I had a Cobra one on my Blobeye which was fine, however it was a proper back box with a silencer, I think the "race tube" style one you are talking about will drive you daft after a while. :D Blitz Prodrive Milltek HKS Hayward and Scott are all good makes.

Prodrive isnt overly loud. It does sound better than standard though but I think its trump card is the way it looks. Far more OEM than most back boxes I see that have a very thin rim that can make the car look cheap and tacky. You can see on mine that it is far more substantial and doesnt look particularly aftermarket, it is very similar in design to Lamborghini tips, only they have 4 of them.

I TOTALY agree with SRSport , If its still not loud enough with a prodrive box just replace the middle section with the resonated piece to a straight through and it will be sweat :thumb:
I have a straight though from the turbo with a prodrive back box and it sound like rumbling thunder :D |
Have you got a youtube clip? I would like to here that.
A couple of months ago I hoofed it on an open road, the next morning in school I had a few kids coming up to me making a vroooo, vroooo noise. They saw, heard and where commented on it sounding "well sick innit" which apparently means that it sounds very good. Also my son knows its me (aged 20months) when Im 1/4 of a mile away driving up the road and can tell the difference between me and many of the other farty pants Novas and Fiestas that are around, much to my relief. I wouldn't want it any louder than it is without any performance enhancements and additional visual paraphernalia that would enable me to get away with it, so for me I think it sounds perfect. :) |
Again, I found the key to it is to replace the resonated pipe attached to the back box. Made a big difference on mine. I now have an afterburner deresonated section and back box ind it rumbles away quite nicely now.
