60K service

Fackin hell  guess how much my bill is going to be from a stealer, for 60K service, rear pads and ..... the killer blow a new heater matrix which is leaking (dash out job) for a '55 blob STi?

juggers 18 April 2011 10:32 PM

£500

Why did you go to the main dealer to have the service?

bioforger 18 April 2011 10:35 PM

£500 :lol1: I wish, they charge £65/hr try again ;) To give you some idea just the service alone is £600.

Coz it's convenient and there isn't anywhere else I would trust, well I wish I had a chance to find someone else now :(

acstua 18 April 2011 10:38 PM

will they price match at all?

i used to get 4 or 5 prices from all the honda dealer garages near me and get my local honda dealer to price match it :)

saved a few hundred quid sometimes

bioforger 18 April 2011 10:41 PM

Good idea, bit late now though, I was kinda forced into it due to the failing heater matrix, it was p1ssing water everywhere behind the dash and affecting the engine temp a bit due to the water loss. So total bill is going to be £1300 ish :( As the matrix is a dash out job thats £700 from them

acstua 18 April 2011 10:43 PM

ouch!

Damn.
My local stealer charges £85 per hour

greatgonzo 18 April 2011 11:35 PM

My local Subaru dealer was £95.00 per hour , It would have probably been worth travelling to a specialist I recon you would have saved a fortune. 60000 mile service is only £400 with most, rear pads about £50.00 fitted, not sure about the matrix but im guessing £300-£400 :wonder:

Oh yea def less than a stealer but not that much less I would of thought for the matrix change, that's a big job and a right pita. I would of tried somewhere else but with Easter hols coming up, work commitments, I had no choice :/

f1_fan 19 April 2011 02:28 AM

£700 is very good for the matrix change. Mine went at 64K and it cost about £1100 all in. It's a massive job!

bioforger 19 April 2011 07:04 PM

Thx for the morale boost F1, well kind of ;) They told me today that they've had a few classics with failed matrices in before, but mine is the first of its year and model they've ever had, typical of my bad luck  I was going to spend that cash on suspension as well, shakes fist.

My wrx had its 60k service last month days before a trip to the alps and I ended up paying £830. Part of that was for new new front prodrive pads, which cost over £200 fitted. I would never normally buy pads from a dealer, but the old ones were apparently crumbling and I won't take chances with safety.

I pointed out to the service chap that you could actually buy a pretty decent car for the cost of the service that might even last a year without attention.

However, on the way home, I came round to thinking that it was just a cost that had to bbe shouldered as a quid pro quo for enjoying a high performance car. Also, nothing has ever really gone wrong with my scoob, so evened out over 6 years, it has done pretty damn well.

Jumping from the simply hideous justy courtesy car into my car for the trip home also helped! The justy's lack of road holding and any semblance of composure over humps was quite terrifying!

Camoscooby 19 April 2011 07:40 PM

I was going to say expect a grand at least :Suspiciou

That's painful dude and I feel for ya :(

greatgonzo 19 April 2011 08:25 PM

£200 for front pads is ridiculous  Do you do track days with the scoob :wonder:

Tidgy 19 April 2011 08:37 PM

you trust a dealer :o

holy feck, didnt think any one did anymore

acstua 19 April 2011 08:54 PM

heh bloke at work has been using the local dealer (well its not a scooby one anymore) for years, since buying his 03 wrx
nothing but good things about them :) (Haddocks Colchester)

bioforger 19 April 2011 08:55 PM

Know where you are coming from but the dealer I use Simpsons are really good. Their mechanics are top notch and experienced. The job is done, took 1 day, pick it up again tomorrow. Will take an extra shirt in with me so they can strip it from my back :)

lol, absolutely if there's a single mark or scratch on the dash it's going straight back in :)

Simon C 19 April 2011 10:28 PM

Given an oil change on my MY09 is £220, I'd expect £1500. A friend who had a 60k service on his euro STi bug eye in France cost him £2200!

Only track based training days. I'd love to do a few proper track days, but the costs put me off tbh and I just don't think my car will be that exciting on a track. The VX200T I had before the kids arrived was something else though. That was seriously good fun on the track.

Since writing my last post, I have had the car's MOT done and the chap told me the front pads were 50% worn :freak3: Bearing in mind that the new pads were fitted in March, that sounds insane to me. I had understood the prodrive pads to be made by ferrodo and to be similar in compound to the DS2500. Well I had the DS2500 last time, supplied by Alyn and the certainly didn't hit the half was mark within 2 months!

Anyway, that's enough thread highjacking I think. Sorry to hear about the major outlay bioforger but I'm sure all will be forgiven once all's running smoothly again.:thumb:

bioforger 21 April 2011 07:35 PM

Yep it's all all ok, well it should be for 1300 quid! The service was worthwhile, car feels quicker, probably due to new plugs and the steering n gbox are sharper ;)

james04 21 April 2011 11:16 PM

simpsons on blackworth ind est? oh dear.

our yard backs onto theirs, the way they drive peoples car up and down the lechlade rd on test is shocking, reving the engines to the limit around the back of the workshops.
