Anyone do Plastic Injection moulding

Bit of a random one this.

Does anyone do Plastic Injection moulding?

I'm after getting a part made in the UK (as the USA charge silly money) for a specific components. This is the most complex one, the others have 3 or 4 spurs off them.

If you think you can help, please bung me a PM

I can give you some pointers :), but need a bit more info

WHat volume are you after? low? mid? high?

Do you have the tool? or do you need to manufacture one

What material will it be produced from?

Depending on the parts requirement, you could get away with a simple 2 part spilt tool.

If it has unique requirements or undercuts, then you would need a more complex up and away type tool

Where is the injection gate on the part, this is important, as you need to know how to get the material in, and the part out of the tool

Is the part for you, or will it be sold commercially? does it need to meed load / type approval.

Is it your design, or a copy of a current part? (copyright or patent may exist for the part)

What provision do you have for tool repair? If the tool gets damaged , worn.

Loads more questions, :D

Price wise? need more info...from the above

Some good questions from Mart.

You can get tools made cheaper and quicker in China, but by the time you factor in shipment of samples and tool it equals out.

We buy loads of tools and as a general rule I allow 7 months to include 3 iterative changes, to get it right, plus texturing, if required.

Cheers guys,

It's quite low production (circa 1000).

Looking at the sums involved it'll be easier to find a supplier of something similar.
