Ebay ones tend to leak. Mocal ones are decent. 'Think Automotive' in Isleworth do them in different rows etc.

Either in the passenger inner wing with decent cold air feed and don't forget an outlet behind the cooler to get good flow or in front of the A/C condenser/Rad - a lot depends on if you're FMIC or not.

I got mine from Advanced Automotives/Scooby projects, Setrab 25 row with all install pipes etc. Excellent service!

Any questions give me a shout!

WOW. Some great info and very informative photos there.

It is important to make sure you actually need an oil cooler. New Age usually do. A lot of Classics do not. An oil temperature and pressure guage combined (Racetech) is both accurate and useful. Not too much money.
If the car is a daily driver give serious consideration to a thermostat so that the engine actually gets to operating temperature during the Winter.

I've recently bought exactly the same Mocal/Setrab oil cooler setup from Advanced, a real quality piece of kit and it has got a built in thermostat which really swung it for me.

And funnily enough mine is going in exactly the same position as yours but mine will probably be horizontally mounted. :)

BlueBugEye 16 April 2011 12:39 PM

Not sure how you'll get it in horizontally - that was my original plan but I couldn't get it in!

My only issue is with checking the oil level as the cooler drains into the sump and gives a false high reading - well that's my assumption.

Well it did fit horizontally, it meant junking the air con but as Spec C's aren't supposed to have it anyway and it meant a weight loss of 20 kgs it was an easy choice. :)

When I get a chance I will post up some pics of the install. :thumb:

Yeah, without A/C it would be a lot easier to fit!

How did you run your hoses, I'm not happy with mine as they are too close to the Headers - plus I want to put some firewrap around them.

Looks good, notice you've got straight fittings both ends as well.

When I ordered the oil cooler from Advanced I wasn't too sure about where it was going to be mounted so I ordered the longest lines with a spare set of unions.

Due to the mounting position it made more sense to use straight ends at both ends for both hoses. :)

BlueBugEye 19 April 2011 05:44 PM

Who did you get to re-swage the ends?

The guy who's building the engine for me took them into his workplace and did them there. :)
