Re - map question

As I am lookIng for other options to get better mpg from the scooby I was wondering if you could re map a scooby to run normal unleaded as outright power is not that important to me ?

Is your Bug a UK one ? From memory my old UK Bug Sti could run on either 95 or 97 RON, without issue but would lose a little power on the lower RON fuel. I seem to remember that info was in the handbook :)

BUT hold out for more input as I wouldn't want to cause you any damage !!

My car has been remapped for more power, but also it has been leaned off a good bit on light throttle, it actually goes right off the narrowband AFR gauge when cruising, i get 30mpg when driving like this

my dads 02 sti has been mapped on rat piss, aka 95 ron lol it managed to run a safe 305bhp.

i wouldn;t want to run it on 95 without mapping for it

Maybe a Subaru dealer can advise you of safe fuel to use on your car's standard ECU? CVC or Keith Price ?

but at stoich, or 14.7:1 its always going to be bad on fuel, regardless of the fact its costing 5p a litre less. The answer is to lean it off in the cruise section of the map.

When I had my bugeye Saloon and then Wagon mapped they where done on 95RON by Rich at Powerstation. No problems encountered and you can run it on a better grade at anytime but it will take a while for the ECU to recognise it and get the better BHP/Torque etc.

still think better economy is to be had this way. Plus the fact the knock sensor will advance the ecu's ignition timing will give you better mpg on super anyway, so the cost difference is marginal. AFR is where its at.
