subaru earthing

This might be a stupid question, so i have my flame suit on ready...

I am going to make an earth kit this weekend, but i want to know what happens to the original earths i remove? Ie- Strut tops etc... Do i just tape the wiring up somewhere, or can the wiring be removed?

Cheers.

No, you don't REMOVE any, you add more.
Leave any in place you find and add more in heavy gauge flexible cable.

Great, Thanks very much.

Do they make much difference? I've been tempted to make a set up myself. To use up some old amp cable rather than anything else.

Im not sure, ill tell you on Saturday haha.

But on a more serious note, all of my earths are manky, badly coloured wire, so cant be doing the car much good. Infact, one of them snapped this morning, thats how brittle they are. For the sake of a few quid for wiring and an hours time it cant do any harm.

No, it can't do any harm. Subaru earths are pretty poor, the older the car, the worse they are. Mine is done.

As you are making the lit, do you have access to a multi-meter? If so do a resistance check from the battery negative to each earth point. If they are good I don't see the point in fitting one.

can anyone recommend good earthing point while we are on the subject as im looking to do this also

musso2010 08 April 2011 09:35 AM

Just use the original earth locations, just clean them up and attach the new cable.

alcazar 08 April 2011 10:25 AM

You can put more on too:

Tops of strut towers,
Engine block,
Gearbox,
Alternator mounting point,
front slam panel,
bolt holding ecu to floor.

Al good.
