How long to push cambelt realistically

I have a 2006 WRX. Cambelt due at 50k or 5 years. It's 5 years birthday is due now (end of March) but has only 40k on clock...

You'll find it's a case of 'whichever comes first'. As the belt is under constant tension, it not just a case of mileage, but time also.

personally i would be thinking more likeevery 40k or 3-4 years mines had been done twice by 65k better to be safe than new engine

Cambelt = £80, engine = 2.5k

Hard one to choose really!

Remember to replace the tensioner, as mine has just failed.

CREWJ 07 April 2011 01:09 PM

Just get it changed. If there is any doubt just do it.

They can last 100,000 miles...

If you are short of cash, take the covers off and inspect it for wear or oil contamination.

P.S. Mine is 5 years old and looks like new.

I've just had my 06 WRX belt changed. I had a look at both of them side to side and there was very little difference. I'm sure it would have been fine to have left in for a long time, but a cambelt is a hell of a lot cheaper than a engine rebuild so get it done as soon as possible mate.
