Oil loss, advice needed!

Having owned the car for just over a week now, I noticed that there was a small amount of oil on the driveway this morning, upon investigation, I found it was coming from a top breather pipe, and leaking onto the subframe -

As circled above, the breather return pipe on the bottom to the rocker cover has been blanked off for some reason.

The car is quite low on oil, which makes me think a fair amount has been lost through this pipe.

Also on the opposite side of the car, a similar thing has been done on the left hand side of the rocker.

Can anyone tell me why this has been done?, and also why so much oil has been lost?, I am going to rejoin the breather to the rocker cover, but urgently need help with this, thanks in advance.

HI Gazzy_b.

LOOKS AS IF THERE WAS A CATCH TANK FITTED IN THE PAST. BAD IDEA TO BLANK THOSE PIPES OFF COMPLETELY, :brickwall U WILL GET A BUILD UP OF PRESSURE IN CRANKCASE, AND PROBLY BLOW A SEAL OR WORSE, :cuckoo:
EITHER FIT A CATCH TANK OR RUN PIPES AS THEY SHOULD BE BACK INTO INLET. ASAP
HOPE THIS HELPS

Thanks Mike, that is a great help, I am concerned about the amount of oil leaking out of here though, the breather on my old Evo was literally drips, this is about a litre in a week, any ideas on the cause?

There are two breathers on each rocker cover - the rearmost is unbaffled and blows by far too much oil. Blank it completely and just run the front most breather.

Thanks guys, there was a catch tank removed from there, sweet as a nut now :)
