APS Induction kit with Front Mount Intercooler

Hi Guys

Had my FMIC on for a while now but yet to get around to fitting the APS induction kit onto it that I previously ran.

With the current air intake elbow removed due to lack of space I'm running a K&N bolted onto the inlet hose.

Any advice?

Car is a 2001 Bugeye STI

What make's the FMIC ??

Japspeed Kit

As dunx say's pics will help. Generally the APS CAI will only fit easily with a APS FMIC. I've had to remove my APS CAI as it will not fit with my Perrin FMIC

I intend to try this and find out in the future possibly. Have seen pics of it done, although you may need to cut & modify the IC pipework to clear the APS position.

I wouldn't think it would fit mate unless you re-routed the pipe work on the front mount. This is because both the CAI and FMIC both go through the same hole in the wing, the one closer to the screen/further back.

unless you fit a aps fmic with a aps cai when they are designed to fit together.

APS CAIK & FMIC thats not APS, think it may be HDI. You just need to customise some pipework, thats all

The Hybrid FMIC kit comes complete with a cold air kit for a filter in the inner wing and a carrier to take the MAF sensor. Fitting is a doddle. The photograph at post 8 looks like APS to me.

If it helps I've got an HDI CAIK going spare.

hey bockett,
the black pipe is a custom pipe and the turbo inlet is a standard perrin 65mm pipe.the black pipe can be got with an APS solid hardpipe but i managed to get one off my mate who was throwing his away!!!

Thanks

I'll have to look into getting a custom pipe made up to redirect the APS. I'd imagine the flexi pipe on the FMIC piping is pretty hard to come by. I may look for some piping that's the same diameter and clamp it in place.

If you are within striking distance of Darlington, I will have what you want.
If you fit an efficient FMIC you need a remap.
If you fit an APS CAK or similar you need a remap.

If I'm not local could you post it?

I'm running the EcuTek so will map once it's all sorted

As I am not exactly sure what will or will not fit it is a matter of trying several things and possibly making an adaptation so sending bits in the post is not really practical. I do know that if the car was in our workshop we would have a solution in next to no time.

I have just purchased a japspeed fmic and I'm looking for a induction kit to suit this!!! Can I use a inner wing one??? I would like the large maf hole one. Any ideas???

harvey 23 November 2011 11:32 AM

I think you are looking to produce 430 to 450 bhp on an MD321T. You will struggle to get a big enough filter in the inner wing to achieve your goal.
You might be interested to measure the pressure drop across the intercooler core and let us know what it is.
