2004 JDM STi (Import) Car Tax £445!!

I have a 2004 JDM STi (Import) which I thought should have been in the £265 per annum Car tax bracket. It is in £445 bracket because it was first registered in 2007 in the UK. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or can I appeal to get this amended? http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr.../brickwall.gif

Should it not be the first registration date, no matter what country? so the question is was it registerd in japan before 2007?

I pay £260 for my UK 2003.

Could be based on Emissions if it is specified on V5

As Ricky said it will be based on emissions

My 2004 Spec C comes into the lower tax band, I think it is calculated on the date that the car was registered in Japan.

As my car went down from the £435 tax band to £245 this year when they aligned the registration dates from the country of origin to the tax bands in the UK.

I would definitely get in touch with the DVLA and question it. :)

I have a 2006 forester sti import, first registered in 2008 in this country but only pay £245per year!

I'd have a word with dvla as said above.

I know the crafty feckers used to rob us import owners with pre 06 cars if they'd been registered post 06 over here. For example my 2002 jdm sti was registered over here in 2007 and used to be the high tax but last year they did a U turn and put it in the correct band based on the MY of the car.

my 2005 Spec C was in the highest band as it was registered in the UK in 2007 and as soon as i sold it it dropped down to the cheaper tax band (sods law)

Fortunately my 500+ bhp 4.2TT V8 is also in the lower tax band so not all bad :D

RESULT!! DVLA have confirmed i have been overcharged - i have applied for a refund which should take about 2 - 3 weeks to come through. Useful site dvla online car tax renewal - you can make an enquiry as to what tax is applicable to any reg number - brilliant! Thanks for all contributions - my renewal is now going to allow me to buy some spare wheels so i can get mine refurbished - hooray!

My MY03 Spec C is £215 per year on the new tax bracket....

Tony:)

stanmo 15 April 2011 10:24 AM

Ditto, I've just paid £215 for an 05 JDM, but when I checked the amount using the enquiry page on their website, it says £205...

Not that I'm complaining - it winds up my in-laws who pay more for their 2008 1.8 Zafira diesel :-)
