classic injectors

ive got code 17 up 4th injector anybody know which one that is as its been suggested to me 1st before i replace the injectors to swap 2nd and 4th plugs over to see if its electrical or the injector to see if the fault code would move to the 2nd?

saiklon 04 April 2011 11:29 AM

4th and 2nd injectors are on the passenger side for a right hand drive car. 4th injector is the one closer to the intercooler and 2nd injector is the one closer to the radiator.

ok cheers, do you know if its ok to swap the plugs on the ijectors between 2 and 4 or are they set in the timing sequence so wouldnt fire right?

tjmatt 04 April 2011 12:09 PM

It will still fire fine, just sub-optimal. Years ago all injectors were batch fired all at the same time not in sequence and it worked then!

goujon 04 April 2011 12:15 PM

ok so if i swap the plugs on injectors 2 and 4 over then what will happen as its showing code 17 4th injector?

tjmatt 04 April 2011 12:26 PM

Well if the fault code stays the same there is possibly a fault with the wiring. If the fault moves to the other cylinder then I would imagine a fault with the injector.

ok cheers, is it easy to swap the plugs and do myself?

Mark82 04 April 2011 02:12 PM

really easy to swap plugs matey, push the clip in on each and swap, easy peasy

goujon 04 April 2011 02:24 PM

ok, so you dont need to take anything apart or move anything the plugs just unclip?

saiklon 04 April 2011 04:11 PM

Have you had a look at the engine bay to identify where the injector plugs are? Anything that needs to be removed will be self-evident.

goujon 04 April 2011 04:22 PM

yes i know the engine bay very well at the moment since been checking everything, i located the 4 injectors, had a quick look and saw the grey plastic tops with the cables coming from them i just havent tried pulling anything out yet. my mate is a mechanic and he's guna change the injectors for me this saturday ive got a standard replacement 2nd hand set coming this week also waiting on maf to arrive to as had code 23 and 17 i also changed the lambda sensor after diagnostic guy got no readings from it... bet it was just the injector all along.
