Amazon Kindle Users...
 

My Mum is looking at getting a Kindle to take with her on her numerous holidays, however she doesn't have wireless at home, she's still using a wired broadband modem.

2 questions:-

Can you plug a Kindle into a broadband modem?
If not, can you download the Kindle books to a PC and then transfer them to a Kindle via the usb connection?

Get the wifi & 3G variant, you can then access the internet/email/download anywhere at no extra cost.

Mine decided to not start after boarding a nine hour flight, great gadget but it does make you question the wisdom of a book that needs batteries.

If you hack your Kindle, does that make you a "Kindle Fiddler" ? and what are the chances of a mob of scrotes comign to burn your house down when they hear that.

My mobile acts as a wifi hotspot so my kindle doesn't need the 3G and i can download on demand no problem.

I have the wifi only version.

You can not (as far as I'm aware) plug it onto a router directly.

You can connect to your PC and copy books to it directly (it shows as a portable media device). I recommend installing caliber (http://calibre-ebook.com/) on your PC as a way to manage and convert e-books on the Kindle.

I had one instance of it not starting up. You just need to slide and hold the power slider across for about 15 seconds and it will start.

hold the slider across for approx 60 seconds it forces a hard reboot, going back through the process that it did when you switched it on for the first time, except that all your downloaded books are still there
