whats cheaper

We need to get an estate car for our dogs as 3000miles with jack in a saloon was a pig trying to clean all the hairs up.

Im womdering though - would an estate car be cheaper all round compared to a people carrier.

Im thinking a 2000 Astra 1.6 or a 2000 Zafira 1.6 as a guideline.

Thanks

The Zafiras are massively practical, good value, drive pretty well, and not at all bad on petrol either (diesel even better still, obviously). As to overall ownership costs, the Astra might work out a bit cheaper, but it really comes down to how hard you take your penny-pinching.

Oh, and you might have done better posting this in 'Other Marques' ;)

If you get a Zafira, make sure the clutch is sound.

My neighbour has one and after 25k the clutch went. Nigh on a grand to have it replaced - and that's a cash deal from a cheap, local place. I think he was quoted nearer 2k by the stealers.

His is an oil burner on a 56 plate. It's been in the garage as much as it's been in use of late. He moans at me over the garden fence, complaining that my 1970s Merc is more reliable than his piece of crap! Which is true.
