Just bought myself a little toy!

Well Trouty got me thinking and convinced me that it makes financial sense to buy one of these things. My friend is no1 on the list at his OPC and no longer wants the car, when he told me this I thought it must be a sign from the gods! He doesn't want a premium as I'm godfather to his kids!!

Trout 11 March 2011 08:15 PM

This will almost certainly carry a significant market premium for a year or two. Free top end motoring!!!

Fabulous if you get it.

alloy 11 March 2011 08:17 PM

Nice one DD, when do you take delivery?

Trout 11 March 2011 08:21 PM

...and do you know the price yet? OPCs are being very coy about it even existing, still!

alloy 11 March 2011 08:31 PM

What a great business Porsche is, recycling that same shell to segment the market is just brilliant business. I guess their economies of scale through their line up maximise margins, leaving them plenty of time to be punting the stock market and rinsing all the hedge funds like they did a few years back. Those Germans are smart!

Dingdongler 11 March 2011 08:36 PM

Trout, I'm expecting it to cost somewhere between the lower powered baby brother ie GT3 RS;) and the GT2 RS. So it should be about £150k?

Matteeboy 11 March 2011 09:30 PM

Bloody hell, that is quite a serious toy! Nice one!

Trout 11 March 2011 09:52 PM

I think it will be £135k plus options - so expect to pay £155k with carbon buckets etc.

Given you have managed to get an option you have probably the second best model from a financial perspective - the GT2 RS being the other. I am confident you will lose nothing for at least a year.

Dingdongler 11 March 2011 10:04 PM

In my dreams!!:lol1:

Sorry but I came across the GT3 RS 4.0 for the first time today on the web and couldn't resist.:(:)

Fantastic looking car though

My chain was well and truly pulled there! I was thinking to myself 'jammy b8stard' :lol1:

john banks 12 March 2011 11:38 AM

It might lose less compared to some cars a third of the price though Deep, could be a better proposition than an M5.

Terminator X 12 March 2011 11:41 AM

It's not even confirmed as certain to be built though, is it?

TX.

Trout 12 March 2011 12:33 PM

The head of Porsche design confirmed 'something' was about to be announced.

Yes, that Teamspeed site is quite something. I came across it when a guy on there reviewed a new boat (Big Fish) owned by a chap I know.

Plenty to dream about ;)

That's what I keep trying to tell myself John, buying one of these cars actually makes sound financial sense!;)

Tbh, (not that I'm saying I've got £150k to spend) I would probably not even be able to get hold of one of these cars would I? They'll go to established Porsche customers I would have thought.

Also at circa £100k the GT3 RS makes absolute sense, but at £150k for the 4.0 there is a whole load of other machinery out there that would need to be considered. Isn't the Ferrari 458 about the same money?

Trout 14 March 2011 05:16 PM

Also the very latest rumour is that the RS 4.0 is going to be a track car only. Not sure how true that is as it would be a diversion for Porsche and a Cup car can be had for the same price as a standard RS.

I am also pretty sure that getting your hands on a 4.0 will be well nigh impossible. There were plenty of customers who provided LOIs and deposits on the GT2 RS who never even got a sniff!

500hp from a 4 litre flat six in a road car sounds a bit mental, so i'd have to agree about it being a track car only.

Trout 16 March 2011 11:15 AM

With PDK - intriguing and credible.

If true it will be incredibly quick point to point. The 40kgs penalty will be more than compensated for by the extra 50bhp over the vanilla RS.

Wow!

PDK-S sounds intriguing. See Trout, even Porsche thinks auto is the way to go for the most focused of its cars, manual is just soooooooooooooooo last year;)

Trout 16 March 2011 12:17 PM

I know - but now I am old I am nostalgic for the days when things used to be done properly!!! :p

The C4S I am driving only has two pedals and whilst very easy to use just lacks something!!

No. They're just pandering to the people who can't drive properly. ;)

Oh I see. Are F1 cars manual then? Or are F1 drivers just not quite as skilled as you?:lol1:

There has been a call to have F1 cars with Manual gearboxes. Fully auto boxes were banned as it was far too easy for the driver.

Plus, F1 and road cars can hardly be compared.

My car can go 12,000 miles before it needs a service. Can an F1 car? No. So therefore my car is better than an F1 car? :freak3:

What on earth has the service interval on your Datsun got to do with anything?:wonder:

I have no idea what you are talking about

tony de wonderful 16 March 2011 07:10 PM

Which cup holder does this 911 come with? ;)

It has as much to do with an F1 car, as a GT-R does. But you made the reference.

I think you'll find that they Banned Traction control in F1 because it was too easy. The banned fully Automated gearboxes because it was too easy.

An F1 driver would be a good F1 driver if the car was semi-Auto or manual.

Do you have an evidence to support that assertion?

Trout 16 March 2011 08:30 PM

I am very sure that my ability as an F1 driver would be completely unaffected whether my car was semi-auto, auto or fully manual.

Go to Youtube, and have a look at F1 races before semi-Auto gearboxes were introduced.

They weren't exactly sh!t drivers back then.
