Not an ounce of the talent of Peter Gabriel and Genesis became Genesis Lite after he took over. Then there was his solo career.... yuck!!

One of my wife's fave bands, his "greatest Hits live" CD is a must have. Good sing-along tunes;)

I didn't realise pop singers actually retired. I thought it was more of a fade into obscurity.

Its "Against all odds" that he made his career stretch this far.

I saw him at Manchester stadium - legend :D

I saw Genesis when he took over from Gabriel in the late 1980 and they were superb even without Gabriel.

I am no Phil Collins fan but was a huge John Martyn fan and hats off to Phil for some of the most sympathetic drumming and backing vocals on Sweet Little Mystery :thumb:

Funny how different Collins' and Gabriel's careers became once they split.

The last Genesis album I bought was 'Then There were Three'. Never the same after Gabriel left. Although I do love 'Trick of the Tail' and 'Wind and Wuthering'.

Gabriel was always streets ahead of Collins. Could never really get into Genesis after he left :)

I've always found it rather amusing the way people dissed Collins-era Genesis (and Collins himself), given that he was just as much part of the band during the Gabriel era'

Great drummer, and only sorry I never got to see him play.

Unfortunately we were working outside. Did see Gabriel when we were there though.

Why do you find it amusing? The two eras are completely different. Gabriel's Genesis was epic in its vision whereas Collins' version just went after the big bucks afforded by chintzy rock pop.

I suppose it's just music on two different intellectual levels really.
