Train help for commuters please...

I've provisionally bought the car Moleys dad is selling but I'm in Scunny, he's in Earlswood.

So I either drive down with a mate who drives my car up or I get a train - alone :eek: Scary...

So Scunthorpe train station to Earlswood.

Looking at maybe Friday (around 8am depart) as Moley will be there too so can catch up.

I get £40 with three station changes at Doncaster, Kings Cross and Vauxhall. But I rarely use stations and have NEVER tried swapping in London

Looked on www.thetrainline.co.uk if it helps.

Ta

Kings cross to Vauxhall us on the underground (like being in a very long tunnel;)) and very straight forward.

From a safety and security POV - If going with cash then i would take the car, if cheque or bankers draft then the train will be fine

Its a very busy main line so if you miss one then it should not take long to get another one.

Might be worth finding out how much it would cost of you left on the 9.45 train, i am guessing a fair bit less. as for the underground bit the trains are every 2-5 mins.

Now Man-up!;)

acstua 07 March 2011 06:11 PM

aye man up :P
1st time i went on the underground alone i had a ruddy great suitcase with me, that was fun i can tell you! :D heh

Seriously though the underground is simples, you wont have a problem!

Just keep an eye on the screens, they will tell you which platform etc
the underground is all colour coded, cant go wrong :D

I got the train from Huddersfield to Reading changing a couple of times with £4k cash to buy a car from a member on here. Just put it in your coat pocket and get on with it. No one else will know what you are carrying so will ignore you and you know who you are meeting so unlikely to get mugged by the seller.

If I was going to meet someone who I didn't know/couldn't trace it might have been a bit different.

This is the website I use, try differing times, you'll be surprised at the price differences.
And book as far in advance as possible.

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Just checked: leave Scunny at 0703 or 1117 satuurday, it's £84.50, leave at 0800, 0917, 1017, it's £42.50

You are genuinely welcome to come along mate. Me and a mate in his diesel. Unless you want the fuel off him and we go in yours but I can't justify more than about 50-60 quids.:lol1:

rossyboy 07 March 2011 08:04 PM

You realise that if you buy that nice Merc, you WILL have to do a review in Other Marques after a few months dont you? :thumb:

Whatever happened to Father Pierre and his stories of his 80s Mercs :(

It was actually a thought I had as he has said they are reliable upto the mid 90's. I'm probably a pillock but ahh you live once - bit of class :D:D

rossyboy 07 March 2011 08:10 PM

Nah, it'll be great mate. Its round about '97 that it all started to go wrong for Mercedes. That one is a proper Panzer :D

Moley 08 March 2011 01:14 PM

Earlswood is quite a small station mate, better to get off at Redhill, as it's quite a big station on the main line.

Get on at Victoria or London Bridge and you should be fine.

Failing that get a coach to Gatwick and i'll pick you up, as i'm 2 minutes away from the airport

you will come in to Kings Cross on Platforms 2 to 8

the entrance to the Tube will be on the right hand side of station as you walk down the platform(down some stairs, then turn left)

quite a few tube lines go thru kings cross, keep your wits about and look for the Victoria Line (light blue) it is a good 3 to 4 minute walk to the tube lines

when you get to the Victoria line you will have 2 choices north (Walthamstow) or south (Brixton) - you need to go south

or if you find yourself outside the station (easy to do as it is confusing) just head for any tube entrance and follow signs

when you get into the underground concourse buy the tube ticket at the manned counters (the ticket machines can be a nightmare)

and try not to get onto a carriage with any sweaty/shifty looking people with rucksacks

and no eye contact -- otherwise you will be labelled gay or a pervert

good luck
