140.9p per litre here in Leeds. I'm on the brink of actually joining in a full week ban on driving at work!! £76 to fill a car what used to cost £49! :mad:

Yet I drive down the road and there's MASSIVE pot holes. And at the end of this month I'll be paying £450 road tax .. it stinks. Really really stinks.

Put it this way. I have spoke to about 4 people today, who have oil central heating, same as me. We can't afford to fill the tanks, hence no heating. The prices are through the roof. They have said they are looking into it, but are they???
Also, the tank has had the oil stolen, at least 3 times :eek:

Rich is rich, and high oil prices won't hurt them. All leading politicians are in the money, so your point is moot at best.

I would encourage a week long ban on using the car Nationally .Just batten down the hatches and stay put .If you can walk to work do so ,if not phone in sick .The people of this country need to stand up for themselves for once .!!!!

The principle problem is the fuel duty.

He didn't remember to mention its the amount of fuel duty and + vat that our wonderful GOV take makes the fuel expensive..:hjtwofing

Trouble is we need it to live. If everyone didn't drive for a week the country would come to a hault.
I don't know about yourselves but cost of living has gone up three years running and I havn't had a pay rise to compensate.
I too am feeling the squeeze and am now one of those driving at 40mpg when I used to be raging over people doing it on a duel carrageway,In a hope to save fuel.
All we can do is buy a £200 Diesel car and run on chip fat / minimal diesel until it dies or you get caught. - first offence and all that.

Not that I am an expert but IIRC you get 2500L / 25000 miles tax free dont you? So you can run your car on veg oil just dont go over that limit? Or have the rules changed?

Anyway, its all going pointy side up. The gotv are bricking it over whats going on in the Med. UKSF have been captured overnight, not good. Sounds like their man on the ground was taken too, a very expensive asset to fall into the wrong hands and the govt are taking risks to try and get this sorted. If this all goes the wrong way I can see fuel prices going up by 20% this year no problems at all.

Exactly in principle the arguement is the government is taking too much but the problem is the **** going down in the middle east

What's even funnier is that Osborne has a net worth per Wikipedia estimated at £4m. I recall PillockLewis claiming he owned 30-odd rental properties which was yielding him £16k a month or something - and that was several years ago. Did PillockLewis go to Eton?

Why the hell Ken Clarke isn't chancellor I will never know. I know he his pro Europe but at least he knows how to run the economy.

Lee's post above about not being able to buy oil for heating becuase it is way too expensiove is a real issue and leaving all party politics aside needs addressing by actions not just mumbling intentions to look at it!!!

Errr reduce the fuel duty! Other countries manage it so why is it so hard for the UK?

Stop making it so hard for folks like us, who have no gas as we live in the sticks, to heat our homes. There are hundreds of people in the same boat.

Look at the graph on this link. You will see what happened when people needed the heating oil the most. It was scandalous. The Government have been inundated with complaints yet they have done absolutely nothing :rolleyes:

i bet shape of the curve is similar for british gas as well tho ( us ) . Very tricky when you cant store so much , is it the same for people who have lpg ( in tanks ) ?

I wonder how the french are coping with this one , lots of them live on having oil delivered :wonder:

I have a 3000 litre oil tank in my celler for heating oil. Just before christmas I had 2461 litres delivered and it cost me around 1800 euros. How does that equate to UK prices?

As far as I know we didn't have any oil problems, I called the oil company and they said when did I want it delivered? It turned up 3 days later as planned.

I doubt British Gas would get away with doubling the price in 2 days :D
Thing is, the prices have stayed high. £400 to fill the tank is managable, £900 is a bit tougher :thumb:
Plus, the price for the motorist, is making stealing from the tanks very tempting.

That would have cost us about £2000. It's come down a little bit, but not much. Would cost us £1650 at todays prices. No idea what that equates to in Euros.
