Online car tax

Paid my £435 fee online on 22nd Feb and still no disc.
Phoned the DVLA who said we'll send you a duplicate and if the original one turns up i have to send it back and wait for the duplicate as the original is now invalid f.f.s.

Now, if the duplicate doesn't turn up by Monday i have to either take the car off the road or go to a post office to apply for another duplicate, what a pain in the arse.
Its the first time i've tried online and it will be the last.
Rant over.

i had the same problem a couple of years ago mate, in the end i had to buy another disc from the post office as both never turned up. i never got my money back even though i argued i'd never got it and i swore i'd never buy one online again.

On a serious note, it is an offence to not display your tax disc, however if it is paid for (ie your car is licensed) and you are unable to display your tax disc, then im sure the law will turn a blind eye. The Traffic plod will run checks against your reg number and see that you are taxed .....

My discs arrive within 3 days - I'm always shocked at how quick.

I will never do it any other ay!!

It's no help but ours came in 3 days, it'll be registered as taxed so wouldnt worry too much

EmzWRX 03 March 2011 09:38 PM

I ordered mine on the 27th Feb and it arrived yesterday.......

There is a note on the form that states as long as your paid and ordered your tax disc online by the 28th February you have a additional 5 days until you must display it or something like that..........can't find the form now......lol

I use DVLA online all the time. No problem thus far.

Had one tax disc go walkabout, phoned, had another disc posted two days later....turned out I did have the orginal tax disc, but it got mixed up inbetween a load of junk mail. :o

Obviously the disc is always sent to the address on the v5...so if the v5 address is wrong in any way, then your disc can go walkies.

Yup, same here

What's shocking is how long it takes them to send out new V5's after a transfer of ownership. I called up, and their automated message actually says "if your new registration documents haven't arrived within 4 weeks of purchasing the vehicle, ... ".

Do they chop down and pulp the trees by hand to make the paper for these bl**dy things? :wonder:

Sorry to hear. Hate to say it to you, but my discs come within a couple of days it seems. Wouldn't do it any other way.

Considering the amount they earn from tax discs compared to V5's then I'm surprised they get done full stop.
They probably put them in a pile and get the trainee to spend 1 day per month to get them done. :wall:
