trying to run 300bhp

just had a new engine and oem exedy clutch fitted in my 95 wrx and just wondering if i could run 300bhp comfortably or as near as what would i have to do?

joz8968 26 February 2011 10:42 PM

Your TMIC and 380cc injectors will limit to about 280bhp after a remap via ESL Live, Apexi PFC or Simtek ECU.

You'd need a decat bellmouth downpipe, decent system, Walbro 255 fuel pump, decent panel filter and NGK PFR7B plugs as supporting mods to fit before the remap...

Jamz_ 26 February 2011 10:43 PM

What other mods are you running?

I was running 310 on my 93 WRX with not a lot done to it (headers, up pipe, decat down pipe and front mount, induction cone)... Loads more bits and a remap being done soon, so will see what BHP i get this time

westy94wrx 26 February 2011 10:49 PM

well ive got a blitz induction kit ,fujitsubo cat back exhaust and the guy i bought it off said it had a walbro fuel pump

initialD 26 February 2011 10:53 PM

turbo
bigger injectors
decats
fuel pump
panel filter
upgrade intercooler would help
and a remapped ecu

not sure how tuff classics gear boxes are ? obviously depends how u treat it . should b fine though :thumb:

gettin new engine fitted was a good time to get an sti dropped in  they are close to 300 as standard and much stronger

joz8968 26 February 2011 10:55 PM

Just need a decat d/p (if not already) and a remap via a remap via one of the ECU options listed for c.280/280.

You're best off reinstating the OEM airbox and a decent panel filter though, as some IK can upset the MAF/general running (an IK is only needed beyond c.350bhp and or the fitment of a FMIC...)

I know you mentioned 300bhp, but for the sake of 20bhp the extra expense of 440cc injectors and a later New Age STi TMIC (or FMIC) isn't worth it IMHO. Only worth it if wanting more. If you did want more, then those 2 additions, with the remap, will get you c.325-340bhp (the 440cc are good for 325-340 and your exisiting TD05H is a 330-350 turbo...)

dabow 26 February 2011 11:03 PM

im with the aboth, sti intercooler
mappable ecu, and 440cc injectorsif not fitted, also a td05 16g

the gear boxes are the weak point on the classics, the ty754 are alot stronger.

joz8968 26 February 2011 11:04 PM

Just checked your garage and you're running a Z4 - so you should be at c.250+ bhp already. Therefore, prob worthwhile in fitting the 440cc inj. and a bigger IC as well then, as mentioned above...

my94wrx 26 February 2011 11:05 PM

i did 293 bhp with the standard injectors, decat and panel filter.

joz8968 26 February 2011 11:06 PM

Yeah, some cars get near 300 with the 380s/slanty TMIC... But the 'average' is about 280bhp. ;)

dabow 26 February 2011 11:10 PM

if your runing a z4, you will have a td05.
so, bigger cooler & the injectors will help
if you go down the front mount rourt, get a 1.7bar map sensor, and look at the esl live map board mate.

im breaking my car, but that was runing 341.4bhp & 338ftlb torque
and using a sports cat :)

the sti v2 slanty coolers did make 320bhp
there was posts on here ages ago about them

joz8968 26 February 2011 11:15 PM

That's as maybe, but as said, it's not the norm. You cant recommend to the OP you'll get 320bhp using that IC, when the odds are against it.

My old 93 WRX made 282 - a ballpark that many other cars running the 380/slanty TM combo make - when responsibly mapped.

I would hate to see the intake temps when the slanty is making <320bhp!

dabow 26 February 2011 11:26 PM

i personally carnt see it, with all the heat soak
but there was posts of peeps seeing 320bhp

most just opt for a front mount. or even the sti v3 type.
if he got 293bhp with that top cooler, if take it to the next step.

had my 1993wrx running 311bhp at 295lbft, i had fmic, 440s, induction kit (apexi), full decat, simtec ecu.

westy94wrx 27 February 2011 11:55 AM

thanks guys what about sti injectors and a bugeye tmic and decat dp what would that produce???? and the z4 ecu im only going off what the last owner said but he said alot of things that werent true. what would my saloon 95 wrx be running if it didnt have a z4 ecu but it does have a td05 16g.and how do i check the ecu?

joz8968 27 February 2011 12:08 PM

As already said, the Z4 is the correct ECU for your 1995 WRX saloon and 16g. It's rated at 260PS or 256bhp. So that's what you'll be IRO producing at the moment.

Need to pull up passenger carpet... remove ally kickplate... ECU staring you in the face... "Z4" should be in big black characters on a small square sticker in the centre of the ECUs cover...

The only way you can better what you have without resorting to the expense of a custom bespoke remap, is to fit the STi v.2's "6K" 275PS rated ECU...

...Or indeed if you can find the genuine Polar Performance (TD05 mapped) chipped 4-plug ECU to give around 280bhp (with a decat fitted). I think Major Sarcasm sells equivalent spec chips though...

westy94wrx 27 February 2011 12:14 PM

ok cheers what would i be running with the mods i just mentioned thenwith the z4??

joz8968 27 February 2011 12:17 PM

Around 250-260.

joz8968 27 February 2011 12:21 PM

TBH, as mentioned, your next worthwhile stage of tune should be:-

decat d/p
New Age STi TMIC... Or Hybrid FMIC + IK
440cc inj.
Later MAP sensor
ESL Live or Apexi PFC or Simtek ECU
JGM or dynamix remap

Should end up in the 330-350 bracket somewhere - about as far as you want to go on a 16yo WRX! Even then you will prob be on borrowed time re the engine/box (just a case of "when" rather than "if"...)

westy94wrx 02 March 2011 01:40 PM

thanks for that joz8968 just checked my ecu and it was a z4 ecu but it was in blue and not black like the other ones what does this mean???

joz8968 02 March 2011 07:30 PM

lol blue prob is the correct colour - I simply mentioned black loosely, as my old 1993 WRX's ECU had "W6" in black. So I'm sure whatever colour it's in, is as Subaru intended. The important thing is that it says "Z4"... ;)

westy94wrx 05 March 2011 09:36 PM

whats the crack with the u8 and z5 ecus do they produce more power than a z4??

U8, 2C - 1993/1994 WRX – TDO5-11.47PSI (0.8BAR) TO REDLINE -FUELCUT 14.5PSI (1BAR) - 240PS (237BHP)

Z4 - 1995/1996 WRX – SAME AS SC- 12.7PSI (0.9BAR), DROPPING TO 11.7PSI (0.8BAR) @ 6600RPM
- FUEL CUT 15.65PSI (1.08BAR) - 260PS (256 BHP) – 7250RPM

joz8968 05 March 2011 10:47 PM

The only other std OEM "phase 1" 4-plug ECU that gives more power than the Z4, is the relatively 'rare' STi v.2 "6K" jobbie with 275PS (271bhp).
