New Age WRX HP Increase

Hi all,

I've had my Blobeye WRX now for near 3 years with 69K on the clock. It has the usual first mods of uprated panel filter, straight through centre section and new back box. Other mods are more cosmetic, STI spoiler, boost gauge, Inovits and turbosmart bov.

So plan is to decat the 3rd cat pipe and put a 100 cell sports cat downpipe in and then go for a remap. I think the original fuel pumps on new age's are pretty strong so going to keep the standard one in for now.

Question is what sort of power am I expected to see?? I realise all cars are different when mapped but a rough figure would be good.

Secondly I would like to eventually get 300-320hp so other than a new clutch (my is on its way out) am I looking at getting bigger injectors and bigger turbo and possibly a STI Intercooler to achieve this?

Cheers all.

VF35, STI pinks, decat, including up pipe, Walbro fuel pump should see 320 bhp.
Sport cat with your current setup should see 270 after a remap.
Have you already uprated brakes and suspension?

He wants power - not brakes????

Fuel pump will be fine, mine has decat up-pipe and downpipe with 3rd cat remaining, straight through centre section and ninja 2 back box and running 278bhp.

I've bought a TD05 front entry turbo, STI injectors and Top mount, 3 port boost solenoid, uprated fuel pump. I'm hoping this will get me to 320bhp.

I have a blobeye
Vf30
Sti tmic
Pink injectors
Walbro fuel pump
3port
Straight through exhaust system
Green panel filter
351bhp 353ft/lb torque
67000miles
Remap by andy forrest

Thanks for the info guys, I forgot to mention I've replaced the up-pipe already as the cat broke its welds and sounded like a rattle, a tad annoying!

Those parts listed in your replies seem to be what I thought I might need, the power gains look spot on though :)

If I go for a fmic over a tmic will expect to see a slighty higher output? Or is it safer staying with a sti tmic for safety?

Safer is FMIC.

STI top mount is good for that BHP, but Front mount will give lower charge temps and little bit more power.

For the sake of £70 i would uprate the fuel pump as the standard one on there will have become less reliable, Also budget for a 3port boost solenoid:)

Have you fitted the Tarmacs to your car yet? any pics? :)

Hi fella,

Yeah fitted them the day I got them off you, they look alright :) Although since the Redlines being back in stock I'm sorely tempted by some 18's in white :thumb:

Here's the latest pic,

Power is nothing without control. Can't see the logic in upping bhp if your brakes aren't upto it. Each to their own and all that

It's all about how you drive. If you like your straight line blasts between the round abouts etc like i used to then uprated brakes are pointless. Never once in 80k miles in my 320bhp classic did i feel the need for better stoppers :thumb:

Yeah started uprating the brakes, got some EBC grooved and drilled disc's with DS2500's front and back and strut braces front and rear. Saving at the mo for either coilovers/lowering springs, anit lift kit and new anti roll bars.

Good to hear mate, I found the standard WRX brakes fading after 3 or 4 hard applications from speed on the country roads I predominantly drive on. Discs and pads, together with DOT 5 fluid and braided hoses should see you fine at 320bhp. ARB will improve the car's handlings far more than the strut braces.
