bugeye service tips

Folks,

Going to service my wrx bugeye today but I have a few questions.

I assume I fill rear diff up to the bottom of the top drain plug?
Is there an easy way to get oil into gearbox? I assume it goes into dipstick hole? I haven't found the drain yet. I assume thats just on the bottom?
Is there a front diff that needs filling seperately?
Do I drain coolant from bottom of radiator? Any tips on refilling?

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan
Rear dif - yes you are correct.
Gearbox oil - fill through dipstick hole. Best to use a funnel with a bit of pipe on end or improvise with a cut down and clean washing up liquid bottle.
Can't see anything on CD's I have regarding front diff - think it may use gearbox oil.
Radiator coolant - drain from radiator drain tap or remove bottom hose - depends on how much mess you want to make. Refill through expansion tank next to air box - not the plastic one near battery. Put heater controls to hot and add coolant in to expansion tank - keep squeezing bottom hose as you do. Once it won't take any more, start engine without putting cap on and keep topping up and squeezing hose (watch fingers in case it gets hot enough for fan to cut in) Some folk also jack up front drivers corner so the expansion tank is highest point in system - idea is to make sure all air is out of cooling system. Once it's full, put pressure cap back on and add some coolant to plastic expansion bottle near battery. After a drive and when engine is cool, check level in this bottle and top up to line if needed.

hi m8 this is my second service but here is what i ordered from OPIE Oils yesterday and what a cracking deal i got again :-), not sure if you have already bought your oils etc

4 x Silkolene SILKTRAN SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil
1 x Litres Castrol SAF-XO 75w-90 Synthetic Final Drive Lubricant
5 x Litres silkolene PRO S 10W/50
10 x Litres Motul INUGEL OPTIMAL coolant
2 x 500ml MOTUL DOT 5.1 BRAKE FLUID

plus below from ebay
Gen Oil Filter & Washer £12.00

this is what you need

Diff Oil 0.8 Litres
Gearbox Oil 3.5
Engine Oil 4.5 Litres
Coolant 7.7 Litres
BreakFluid 500ml

and will leave lots for top ups :-)

i just removed bottom rad hose for coolant then refilled like JeffT posted, the trans oil via dip stick but i did remove the TMIC as this made it a lot easier and i didnt use and funnel or pipe just stright from the bottle

as for the rear diff oil i drained as much out as possible then jacked the front end up as far as possible to get the rest out.

good luck m8

I was surprised that most of the service info is actually in the handbook for the car. I take it that there are no bleed points for the coolant as you refill the system?
