EJ20 centre thrust & rear thrust crank difference

Hi guys,

I have just received a brand new billet crank which i ordered for my version 3 type R from a company called Max Speeding Rods.
Now a version 3 STI crank should be a centre thrust crank as you all know. Is there way to look at a crank and deduce whether its a centre thrust or rear thrust type?
The guys i got it from say that their EJ20 cranks are universal in that they can fit both rear thrust or centre thrust bearings on the same crank?
I have a set of ACL bearings (centre thrust) that i want to use for my rebuild and i put the big bearing in the centre slot (journal?) and the fit is perfect. What i want to know is what bearing goes on the rear thrust slot because its quite wide! When i put the big bearing on that slot there is a lot of play (nearly 1mm) sideways. All the rest of the bearings are smaller than the thrust bearing so what goes there??
My mechanic says its not a good thing as the oil pressure will not hold?
Sorry if my explanation and terms are not very technical but i hope someone on here knows what i'm trying to say...

Cheers,
Imran
