Anyone running Big Power (400bhp+) on older style coilpacks

Hi, as the title says is anyone running big power on the older coilpacks, 1 on each plug?

My bro is having trouble with missing at high boost (2bar) car is currently running about 470BHP on 1.7 bar i think.

Think it would be worth going to v3/4 coil pack and leads or even better newage coil packs

as banny has said bin the unreliable old style coils packs and put the single coil on or the new age coil packs.

My car is about 450hp at 1.8bar & misfires something rotten at about 6k rpm ... coilpack upgrade is next on my list of potential solutions!

Interesting,

How does the new age coilpacks differ from the v3/4 layout? is it the same but just with different insides to the coilpacks?

cheers

Dave the v3/4 has the coilpack in the centre of the inlet fannymold with leads to each plug.

Newage has individual coil packs to each plug :thumb:

What's the better solution Banny - V3/4 or newage?

TX.

Edit - oops, you do say newage above :o

Claaarkio 21 February 2011 02:48 PM

OK, so how do the newage coilpacks connect? are they the same connecting plugs or is there more to it?

i was also told prodrive run the same coils on the WRC cars so they must be pretty decent !

Claaarkio 19 March 2011 05:43 PM

Just fitted the new age coil packs onto my brothers classic running EJ25 and 2.0bar, previously only able to run 1.5 bar without misfiring, and i can confirm the misfiring is completely gone! woohoo! new age coilpacks have done the trick!!

mit 19 March 2011 06:22 PM

When i upped the boost to 1.5 bar, i had a misfire like you guys are saying. All i did was reduce the plug gap, which cured the problem instantly. Easy! If i ever need to change a pack or two, i might change over too.
