Annoying Squeaking
Hi
i have a 2005 wrx sti i have got an annoying squeak which i think is comming from the passenger side, its worse when its been sitting all night and i get in it to go to work, it only squeaks when hitting dips in the road. i have had a set of ast sportline coilovers fitted but it was doing this before they was fitted and its still there. some times it stops after driving itfor a while. any idears? thanks  |
Does it sound like its coming from outside i.e. mechanical, or inside and trim?
|
Sounds like it is outside

ARB bushings?
|
^^exactly what I was going to say. Jack the front up on the standard jack and get some white lithium grease spray and aim it at the ARB bushes. I need to eventually change mine but a 5 minute spray last for around 2 months, probably longer in the summer.
|
By the way what do you both do at 4.30 in the morning?
|
Thanks I'll try that Monday
On nights at work. Where can I get some White lithium grease from? |
This is the seller I bought it off
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ht_2401wt_1141 It could be a number of things but I would always start with the cheapest option and in this case the most likely. With mine it takes a few miles to take effect and although it makes the sound go away for a couple of months I should change them soon. At £12 + £30 labour for the front two at my local specialist its not really worth leaving. |
yeah i will start with that if it goes away i will replace them straight away. Whats the best replacement whitline? Thanks again for your help
|
These are quite highly regarded. Are you wanting to upgrade the ARB at the same time?

I was thinking about it. but not sure if there is any point as i really only drive the car to work and back which is a 6 mile round trip. plus i put the Ast sportlines on as i had the usual knocking from the old suspension and had them set up for fast road use. The handling feels really good.
decisions, decisions ill see how it goes monday and go from there |
How did it go?
|
I havent got round to it yet i am doing it Monday been busy at work I'll let u know how it goes. It's been going away after driving a few miles then it's back first thing in the morning.
|
Snap Im getting mine done on Monday as well, as the garage says they'll do it at the same time as doing an alignment so wont charge me anything more than the parts themselves which is something like £15 for the pair. It will be interesting to see how we get on.
|
well i have sprayed up my arb bushing's and its still creaking it does stop after driving it for a while. so do i replace them and see if it stops or is it something else?
|
I never got mine replaced as a few days before it was due to go in it developed a very serious sounding knocking so all effort went on finding that. It turned out to not be anything significant but it means I am yet to get mine replaced.
When I spray mine it takes around 30 minutes/10miles of driving before it stops the squeaking, Im assuming to allow the grease to filter and move into all areas. My garage is charging me £25 to supply and fit the bushes and for that money it is worth getting new ones. Even if its not them it will benefit from a very inexpensive renewal as they can develop play that will have a negative effect on handling. |
try disconnecting your ARB drop links, f/r. And drive carefully around. See if the noise is still there. If its gone, then you know its ARB related. If it persists, you know that something else, strut, spring perches, body panels, etc. etc.
|
Glad ur serious knocking didn't turn out to be bad sr sport. I reckon it's arb bushings as it's doing the same as yours. I'll do what arnie 1 said to make sure cheers again for all ya comments. I'll keep ya posted

Found out any more? I finally got mine replaced and squeaking has gone:luxhello: Cost me £25 for everything, parts, labour and VAT, so very pleased.
|
I finally got round to sorting out the squeak it seems to have gone. i first changed the front arb bushings for the whiteline 19mm as the squeaking started comming from the front aswell.Tried to get the rears but whiteline didnt do 19mm rears neither super pro so i went for powerflex which took me about 6 weeks to get due to euro car parts messing me about.so i got them from another suplier in three days fitted them today and it seems to have stoped.
Thanks for all your help |
Pleased you got it sorted.
