Help, How to get my rear brake back plate off

I need to change the rear back plate on my 1993 WRX Ra. How do i get the flange with the wheels bolts off the hub, so I can remove the brake back plate. I have removed the whole rear hub from the car and remove the rear driveshaft. Please help
Thanks Alistair http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...es/ponder2.gif

The backplate is spot welded to the hub,so it cannot just be removed as in unbolted.

I have just removed my backplate as im fitting 2 pot rear calipers and simply used a screwdriver to lever out the backplate where it was spot welded,i did try drilling out the spotwelds but this took far too long

Thats handy to know, as I'm fitting two pots too! I took my fronts off too, as they were rather rusty :lol1:

Anyone have a source for these brake back plates as expensive at main dealers and mine has rotted

Are you on about the plate that is just in front of the bracket? If so it's spot welded, just jam a screw driver in and snap/bend it off, then if you want to make it neat sand it down. I wouldn't think this is a replaceable part?

This is mine with the plate gone and the drum plate/cover angle grinded to allow the new bracket to fit:

If you are fitting 2 pot callipers I assume that the back plate is not needed so could a rusty plate just be ground off to avoid damage to other components if the slide calliper type rear brakes are being retained or does it do anything?

I'm confused to as what plate we are talking about ha.

There is a plate i call the stone guard (17/18 on the diagram.) spot welded onto the hub/disc drum plate:

Part 5 below is what i call the hub/disc drum plate:

The stone guard can come of it really doesn't matter in my eyes, i took mine of to fit larger brakes and so far i've had no isses.

I'm not sure if the hub/disc drum plate is removable, but you need that as the drum shoes rest againt it.

Thanks
Sam

As above: leave stone guards off, they actually TRAP stones, leading to noise and wear:(
