Ebay Chinese Double Din Headunits?
Anyone had experiences with these all singing all dancing chinese special double din headunits. They seem to do everything from MP3/4; videos; hard drive; sat nav etc etc. They'r unbranded but quite cheap. Any opinions??

If you research the negative feedback comments on ebay for these type of items, it puts you right off buying one :(
|
I had one, was semi pleased with it, although it didn't appear to go into the double din surround on a facelift classic very well, so had to cut a lot of the fascia away, and still wasn't pleased.
It may have been because I was doing a Single to Double DIN conversion, and it never worked how I wanted. But all the functions worked how I wanted. Bit difficult tuning the radio properly. |
It almost put me off as well, a friend bought one of the old ones and it was very good.
Will let you know how i get on with it once its fitted. |
I've had both double-din Xtrons and Eonon units. Great for the money, do most things, but the colour menu screens leave alot to be desired. DVD playback was good though.

If any one wants a All singing/All dancing braned double Din head, I have a JVC head unit, not very old, in perfect condition.
Its in the For Sale section...here |
i bought 1 xmas 2010 , very pleased , excellent sound , superb quality , hd , only down side is you do have to trim the dash surround ? i used a dremmel to gently grind it down didnt take long and i am by no way very technical but i wired it very easily . hope this helps

Did you get yours to fit? The Xtrons TD717G I bought is to large for my Hawkeye dash. Have you had to cut yours? |
Have had one for the last two years, no issues other than having to trim the dash a little to fit it... if i had the choice again would have spent the money on a branded unit...
|
IMO, the price speaks for itself. I`m a firm believer that you get what you pay for.

A guy i work with has just bought the xtrons TD17G unit...for what he paid, the unit certainly looks quality and not the usual cheap tat. Customised loading screens, GPS, SD card reader, usb ports.
|
I had a unit a few years ago for my bugeye - had to butcher my fascia as it wouldn't fit the double din even though it was perfectly standard!
After about 4/5 months it gave up on me - kept getting issues with reading music from DVD's etc and it got to the point where I just binned it. Cheap tat - nothing more! |
Well I'm not going to start cutting my fascia/dash, I've only just got the car. It looks like these will fit as the front is slightly smaller that the rest of the double din unit.
Kenwood DPX504U http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk...rs/cd/DPX504U/ http://images.kenwood.eu/files/image...DPX504_SWL.jpg Alpine CDE-W203Ri http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/...de-w203ri.html http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/prod...cde-w203ri.jpg Think I'll go for the Alpine unit and forgo the chinese all-singing-all-dancing units. |
I've bought a few of these in the past, only one broke after a year using it dvd/cd player packed in, others where fine, had no problems really
|
I can confirm the Alpine unit above fits absolutely perfectly in my Hawkeye. Very pleased with it.
|
Think I'm gonna cry. The Alpine unit only supports 100 folders (with 100 files per folder) on a USB stick. This doesn't match the way my Music is stored. Bugger. Will try the Kenwood as can't see any limits noted in any docs.
|
Im with the ALPINE also, Flight you say you got more than 100 songs use the ipod function, it comes with a wire so you can plug ya ipod directly to the head unit ;) I bought this on monday took me about 5 minutes to fit, You do need an Iso ariel adaptor though which they dont bloody tell you when you buy the unit!!
I had a cheap crappy undbranded 1 and the noise of the fan was shocking it squealed whenever the head unit was on so it had to go!!! |
To give the full story, I went and got the Kenwood unit and tried that too. It doesn't have the file limitations that the Alpine has and the display is better than the Alpine (basically giving more song info and you can change the colour to match the Impreza dash illumination). I also prefer plugging my ipod in the front USB (its still detected as an ipod) whereas the Alpine has an ipod connection/wire you need to route from the rear of the unit. Finally the aerial connection for the Kenwood plugs straight in without needing an adaptor.
I couldn't hear any difference between the two in term of sound quality/noise. So am sticking with the Kenwood. |
I like how they both made a good double din head unit, It took me a while to figure out which one to go with so i went with the alpine, as it had the wire for the ipod that comes out the back of the unit and its now tooked away in my glove box :)
As for sound i think they both have the same amount of power and all the sound options it's just the looks that are different :) Im pleased you got one in though :) Didn't take long to fit either which is a bonus :) |
