jdm or type uk blobeye sti?

just wondered what the difference is? Engine and gearbox wise.

pigSTi 15 February 2011 05:03 PM

jdm have twin scroll turbos, not sure what else

fastboyslim 15 February 2011 05:05 PM

trust me on this, jdm all the way.

rickya 15 February 2011 05:07 PM

JDM, a no brainer, apart from the price as JDM's are approx £2k more expensive.

Do some research on here, there's quite a few differences.

KAS35RSTI 15 February 2011 05:15 PM

JDM FTW!

TonyBurns 15 February 2011 05:30 PM

Its more like what is the same, the MY03/04 cars come in 3 basic guises, the KL (or povity spec) STI, avoid, the GL (standard STI spec, has all the goodies you want) and the Spec C.

If you look at the GL v the standard UK STI then your looking at engine is 80% mechanically different to the uk one with stronger (and better oil feed to the bearings) on the JDM, quick rack steering, rear wash wipe, folding electric mirrors, higher revving engines, stronger gearboxes (some components are upgraded over the UK cars making them more robust), A-DCCD (not on the KL or the quick rack, hence avoid), rear privacy glass and a host of other small things like the back lighting on the dials which look better than the UK ones (and rear light clusters).
It really is a no brainer, JDM wins hands down :D

Tony:)

jamielove69 15 February 2011 05:30 PM

ok. What do you pay the extra for though? Could put a twin scroll on a uk model. Then what? Are the internals the same?

TonyBurns 15 February 2011 05:34 PM

I also forgot about the auto I/C spray button, cant leave that out ;)

Why would you??:wonder:..Just buy a JDM and save time, money and F*cking about:D

jamielove69 15 February 2011 05:43 PM

ok thanks. Safer to run at high bhp then.

RE54 15 February 2011 07:17 PM

i couldnt insure a JDM anywhere close to a normal type UK sti. so its not just buying one.

depends what you want it for.

Trust me as well. Steve.:)

Camoscooby 15 February 2011 07:49 PM

If my pockets were deep enough for the JDM model, I would have bought the JDM model :(

TIZERBOY 15 February 2011 08:13 PM

had a uk now a JDM so more better,,its JDM STI for me......

Rob Day 15 February 2011 08:20 PM

I believe the Road tax is cheaper on the JDM's too?!?!?

Not sure how insurance works to tbh, but then you could give one of the Advertisers on here a nudge to see if he can tell you.

I've owned both, jdm widetrack and type uk single scroll, and I have to say the type uk feels like a better car. gear ratio, turbo it is quicker, fact. this "jdm" ethos is absolute garbage, until someone can show me actual figures on performance over a type uk I'll refrain from judgement.

For reference:

MY 05 Impreza Wrx Sti
350bhp

So OEM Uk VF35 is better then JDM twin scroll?

Anger 13 January 2018 07:13 PM

Must have had a issue if you think a VF35 is better than a Twinscroll turbo

Bryan Gallacher 13 January 2018 07:31 PM

hmmmm. I didn't say that

**jay** 13 January 2018 09:59 PM

Had one uk impreza got bored very quickly of it, only downside of a jdm is putting the wipers on every time i want to turn lol other than that way better built car

you didn’t.... :wonder:

Rob Day 14 January 2018 11:31 AM

Bryan, your saying that the “fact” the single scroll turbo is faster than the twin scroll, but your refraining from commenting..... then say you have a 350bhp UK single scroll which means you don’t have a factory mapped car, so it’s hardly Apples for apples.

Not trying to offend, but I don’t understand.
