EBC Blue NDX or Performance Friction Z Pads
 

As title says which ones do you think are better?

Im looking to buy fronts & rear pads, using with Brembo gold calipers & std discs on a newage. Fast road use mainly & I can get them both for just under £200 for the set, fronts & rears. Iv used PF Z pads before & they were awesome, never used the EBC Blue Stuff NDX.

Opinions? (if other than these two, please state)

I voted blue's but TBH I have never tried the others. All I do know is the EBC Blue's are a million times better than the original Brembo pads. The are noise free, and work extremely well even when cold.

I've tried the PF Z compound on STi brembo calipers and found them good, but having tried the EBC Bluestuff compound on AP Racing 6 pot calipers and Brembo rear calipers then I'd go for the EBC. :)

The EBC pads have good performance when cold and it just gets better the more heat you can get into them, I know the EBC pads were installed into the AP's but the performance is eye popping. ;)

If you go for discs and pads I would contact Ian Godney and go for his 2 part front discs and his one piece rear discs, he has some very good deals on both discs and both types of pads. :thumb:

i swapped form ebc yellows to blues, and noticed zero difference in braking performance

Cannon Fodder, are the NDX wearing quite reasonably or fast? The PF Z pads I used before seemed not to wear that quickly at all. Saying that Im never hard on the brakes anyway! lol

Jef, are you talking about Blue Stuff or Blue Stuff NDX?

Somes Scooby gurus are saying PF pads (Duncan @ Race Dynamix) & others (John Felstead) are saying EBC NDX!! Seeing as I have used PF Z pads before, it would be interesting to try the EBC Blue NDX this time........nothing like a bit of research/comparison & then a huge write up on here about it!! lol :D

Have tried both and the PF's are a very good pad but EBC Bluestuff NDX are better all round.

Cold they have good bite and are silent, hot they are more on par with PF's 01 Race compound.

Well they haven't worn out yet, tbh I have taken the wheels off once since the pads were fitted and they looked as good as new, they are also very good on the wheels as well - there is some brake dust but the DS2500's were far worse for dust. :thumb:

I have been running the Bluestuff NDX since Aug in my car , had the wheels off the other day and after 6k road miles they are still like new , no crumbling like some pads do , there is no noticeable lip on the discs , they still look new.

I find the NDX very good from cold , even in the ice we had before christmas , they were very good , a good test for them for me is over the mountain into the next valley to our anodisers , a very fast downhill run that really gives the brakes a hard time , and they work faultlessly.

My son was in Castle coombe last year on a track day in his 400hp Evo with NDX pads fitted with instructions from me to kill them on the track , he failed ! they just kept biting and biting.

I have tried the Z rated pads and didn't like them , on two separate occasions me and my Mrs nearly went into the back of the car in front as they didn't bite cold , only had them in a couple of weeks then took them out.

If anyone recommends the PF pads over the NDX pads , then they haven't tried the NDX pads.

I would recommend the NDX , and I sell them all.

The NDX pads are more expensive , and will cost you £239.66 for front and rears , you will not get them cheaper , we are also offering free delivery on them

sorry to hijack the thread but ian im going to buy some new discs and pads all round for my 04 sti can you tell me the advantage of the two piece front discs please over the standard one piece and would you recommend putting braided hoses on while im at it?

it seems if i ever get my pf pads to wear down {and they take a hammering},ill have to try these ndx blue pads out.

Decent 2 piece floating discs have the benefit of being lighter and shedding heat better than one piece discs. PF discs are also high in carbon content and will last longer than conventional discs.

Braided lines are well worthwhile for a more positive pedal feel and they don't cost much.

Thanks for members opinions, the poll is looking like a three way draw at the moment!!

After looking at prices I got a set of front & rear EBC BlueStuff NDX from Camskill at £187 inc VAT & delivery. Pretty good price really, will report back as to how it compares to PF Z pads.

It's only split because people are voting on what they use and are happy with. Not many of those people will have used both PF and NDX. ;)

Last time I checked Camskill were not on the list of limited NDX dealers:

There have been a few companies offering the NDX for sale only for customers to find they receive the old (non-NDX) Bluestuff compound, which is completely different. Hope this isn't the case with yours.

I checked the part numbers,(for 2001 onwards Brembos) they are fronts: DP51210NDX £132.40 & rears; DP51537NDX £55.30, with free delivery.

Lets hope everythings ok!

I know EBC want to fix prices with all retailers so I imagine Camskill might get their ears pulled soon & prices will inevitabley go up in line with everyone else.

Yep, and the other non-authorised sites were also listing the correct part numbers only for customers to find that they receive the non-NDX ones.

Might be worth checking with EBC.

dont get me wrong the set up is good, but for me just doesnt seem any different to the yellow stuff pads i had before at half the price

just ime mate, im not out to slate any products as they are good.

You were very lucky there and got a bargain , it looks like they have realised what they did and the price is the same as us now

Isn't price fixing illegal - possible referral to trading standards on the cards here??

Everyone is selling them at the rrp , same as AP do with there kits , you won't find any discounts there , same as the K sport kits , everyone sells them for the same cost.

With the bluestuff pads , it's such a limited supply from the factory that it does not allow us to offer discounts on this line , if I offered a discount , I wouldn't make anything on them , I think that's why it was originally given to only 5 outlets , anymore and there wouldn't be enough pads to supply everyone.

On Blues we had to completely re tool to make production batches people wanted which has hampered supply

We therefore have limited outlets and when a product is short no one in their right mind will discount it

Simple supply and demand

We also had a price change in January and it has not been loaded on some sites yet

Update:

Done a few hundred miles with the EBC Blue NDX pads all round now so can give some opinions. Bearing in mind that its only my opinion not based on any proper stopping distance tests & that my previous PF Z pads were on my Spec C which was 70kg lighter & which I sold/drove a year ago.

These EBC Blue NDX IMO are very good pads & Im very happy with them overall, especially as I got them at approx £50 less than RRP! They dont squeal, brake dust is not that bad either. What I do like about them more than the PF Z pads is that they seem to have more feel while braking slow to medium force, you can modulate the braking force quite easily. With the PF Z pads I found them to be a little bit more on or off & found it harder to vary braking force. Saying that the PFZ pads did seem to have more of a bite when braking hard, they seemed to stop with more ferocity. But this may have something to do with the fact that the Spec C was 70kg lighter & had stiffer suspension turrets.

Overall they'r both excellent pads and you can't go wrong with either. :thumb:

I am very impressed with how my Bluestuff feel so far, very good bite from cold, a lot more feel than the yellows I had on previously. I am yet to use them in anger though :)
