Not strictly related to Scooby's, but could be as a better job would mean more money to buy/modify a Scoob http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Anyway, I started my new job just over 2 months ago, though it is with the same company, and I am bored of it already http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I'm not sure if this is just me but I always feel bored and that I could do more. I wanted to work in e-commerce so now I am an Intranet Manager. Still not happy though and want to change again. It may be the travel industry as it is dull at the best of times.

So, the question is who likes their job and why? Do you wake up and look forward to going in, or do you dread going in to work the night before like me? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

It doesn't help at the mo that I am being shafted with my contract http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Rant over http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

airhead 20 March 2001 11:18 PM

Used to love my job. Own office, good (ie medium to lowish) workload, good culture - but the dosh wasn't enough.

Temping now so every job seems good at first. By the time I've got bored its time for next assignment so that can't be bad. Dosh is good too, but then again no work no pay - and that happens between assignments.

Cars good though!

I can totally reccomend Disaster Recovery for a big Multinational.

Good pay, Lots of training, Nice people, different everyday, + company car (Scoob !!)

What more can I say...

Oh year, its in the country, and I can watch bunny rabbits and deer from my desk..

Lovely !

My job was great till they changed the bonus scheme, I just can't make it anymore! Thing is though it's a good job, good company and is literally two mins from home.

I have been thinking of ditching the motor trade all together but I don't have a clue what to do, I think I just want a massive pay cheque!

Bob
After dropping a car off the ramp I'm lucky to still have a job at all!

I do like my job, though was getting bored with it about a year ago, as for the previous 2 years the company had been left to decline. Last year there was a managment buyout and a lot of things changed for the better, big time! have had a few rather nice pay rises in the past year, and the company is doing very well, but that's probably because we're actually coding and shipping product.

This time last year it really was a case of coming in, answering a few tech calls and then spend the rest of the day surfing the net, and after a few weeks this gets a bit boring, and this went for for at least 6 months if not longer.

Now I actually do a bit more work, but I also go on-site more, which is a good laugh, and the new directors are brilliant. It really is like having another family.

Ok, some days are fcking awful, but then hey, no job is perfect.

Markus 21 March 2001 09:47 AM

Richard,
care to enlighten one of the lesser ones by saying what you actually do at microsoft ?

AlexM 21 March 2001 09:47 AM

Dreamweaver,

Not a career advisor or anything but....

The key to finding a job that you can enjoy is to have a very clear view of exactly what you think you would like in your next role.

Make a list of all the aspects of your current or past roles which you enjoy, and would want in the next role. Also decide what you want to acheive in the wider context of your life. Make another list of things you dislike, and you have now at least established a set of criteria for vetting future positions.

Have a look through the self help section of your local bookshop - you should find plenty of career development guides that will help. Some of the introspective questions are harder to answer than you might think, and are frequently thought provoking.

Cheers,

Alex
(more than occasionally bored at work!)

Have always hated jobs till this one.

I work as a research analyst in technology (Gartner) it is a lot nicer to be finding out if technology work with out a couple of thousand people blaming you if it goes wrong for half an hour.

and the people are nice too (read that as car nuts)

kryten 21 March 2001 12:07 PM

olly - not round wokingham is it - i'm a contractor and spend a couple of days a week at a company with similar outlook....

Of course the contractor advantage is that if i don't like a place, i bugger off and find something I do http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

ollyshorey 21 March 2001 01:38 PM

Kryten,

Yes, it is probably the same place. Look me up in phonewin, and show me your scoob.

Maxwell,

Sorry mate,

None on the horizon.

The Zohan 21 March 2001 01:48 PM

Yes thanks, good days and bad days - more good than bad though!

Well mine just got extremely bearable.... got made redundant this morning (me and 50 others around the world - 24 from my office) so it's now a'surfin' for jobs we will go...

Oh, the Scoob is mine so that's OK then!

WALKER 21 March 2001 03:43 PM

I love my job, sometimes i have to work 7 hrs a day which is a real bummer http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif but mostly about 5 hrs which suits http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Working for yourself is the best move i made and can reccomend it to everybody! Wish i`d done it years ago.

Paul http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Nate-old 21 March 2001 03:51 PM

Same here , work for yourself , work what hours you want , and the best thing is you are earning the money for yourself , not someone else which actually spurs you on to work more , Yeah love it.

Nate
