Sub 5k fun, relaible, cheap daily driver...RenaultSport Clio 182?

Exciting sub £5 grand daily driver required guys.

Any thoughts views or opinions on one of these as a more interesting daily whip? Are they as good as the Performance mags (EVO etc) say?

So far it ticks all my boxes as long as i can see past the fact its French lol

Ive done a little digging and it seems that one with both the cup packs is the best as a daily driver as it comes with gas lights, climate, alcantara trim etc etc.

Seen the usual info regarding important cambelt changes and possible worn 2nd/3rd syncros etc.

I do at least 50 miles a day and am currently driving a Ford Transit Connect. Super practical and useful by mega boring if youre a petrolhead like me.

Im not looking for anything that has to set the world alight as im leaving that to the Impreza. Just want a fun, cheapish daily driver. Seeminly, theres really nothing else out there that floats my boat for the money.
Howvere i havent yet driven one and want to know what people who have owned them think?

What do i need to know chaps?

Cheers Frayz :thumb:

Only one choice imo.....

I'd jump at one if i could afford to have a second car. :)

I sold my 172 last year as i needed a mile muncher.
Having done 20k over the space of 12 months i was bored of it. To get it to do anything involved screwing the nuts off it which was tiresome at best.
Given the choice between that and the tother halfs Fabia Vrs saw me picking the oil burner every time. Catch a 172/182 off cam and you could humiliate one in a much crapper car. It was quickish if you worked it but that was it.
Would i buy another for fun run about - no, not and never.
Just as an aside - loads of people moan about build quality, mine didn't squeek, rattle or miss a beat and generally returned 34-34 mpg :thumb:
What would i buy in your position - i'll have a think if i may :D

Hi I owned a 182 FF. Handling is great... speed not so much it's totally gutless before 4k rpm, and it seems to take an age to get there.

Interior was okay (I had the rare Recaros) but tbh I thought my 206 GTi looked better inside! Exhaust and belts from a specialist well over a grand, in fact nearer two...

Had a couple of faults even though it was only three years old. Overall not really that impressed!
