Turbo replacing!

Hi all,
Looking to upgrade my 98uk td04 for something bit better. Mine has actually started to smoke and is on its way out............just wondering what would be suitable as I have 440 injectors to put in, full decat, and front mount to go on. It has come just as I was planning to get everything done and remap. So, with this in mind, I need a steer in the right direction on a good strong turbo.....please :luxhello:

Vf35 is goog=d and around £300, but you might need 550 cc injectors.

I take it you have an aftermarket ECU as well?

what do you mean by better turbo? The TD04 is a great turbo - very fast spool makes reasonable power - just lacks top end.

what are your goals? This should help to answar your question.

Hopefully you have already taken care of things like the crappy brakes.

Ive kept my td04 on for now but if i was going to replace it id prob go for a exchange Andy Forrest td04 you get the best of both worlds a new turbo and extra power with the quick spool:thumb:

Shmerman just waiting for all bits to be done in one go, then was gonna visit either jolly green or any other suggested tuners.
bugeyejohn, replacement sounds good, as i said mine needs doing and was only going bigger for more power, but if Andy forrest can get me bit more than game on.
Ideally looking to get to 300bhp again.

For £400 exchange the reworked turbo is supposed to be good for about 300/ 320bhp with the least lag of all the turbos plus theres no worrys about fitting second hand i cant wait for mine to need replaceing :lol1:

the td04h is good for 300, from andy forrest, its his hybrid version.

With standard TD04 you will pass probably 270-280bhp,with TD04H from AFP(Andy Forrest) you will pass 300bhp and maybe you will get 320bhp...
Best for you will be VF34 and then you will looking at 330-350bhp.But before you are want something change you will need mappable ECU like is ESL or Apexi Power FC,Simtek...

Cheers guys, lots to think about...........more power is always good.

I have a Hybrid, and my god its good. I have 300bhp, with similar torque, up to you, but its an amazing turbo. I wouldn't personally go for a front mount, bit more lag then. I have STi8 top mount.

VF34 or VF35 . My VF35 starts spooling some 250 to 300 revs later than the TD04 did, but gives far more mid and top end grunt. They can be had second hand for around £275 to £300

If you have a 98 UK car, you need to budget 1k for ECU and map on top of the turbo, just so you know.

Go in a friends car who has the turbo you want- its the difference in lag from TD04 you will miss- if you are happy at circa 300- 320 get an Andy Forrest Hybrid, but budget for the ECU as well.

Top end drop off is kinda annoying, however I do like the quick spool up :-)
My old Impreza with td05 had definate lag in comparisson.................... what to do??
