06 Spec-D vs Stag = OMG!

Few nights ago I had stag jump right in front of me, what with the down slope and muddy surface there was no stopping in time and while the stupid animal bounced back up, gave me a stare and vanished out of the way presumably with a bruise or two, my Spec-D didn't do quite so well.

No dented metalwork, though I have a small crack on the bumper (new only 2 months ago thanks to a somebody else in a car park), but the deer's backside smashed the driver side headlight unit. The lights inside all work fine and I have been looking for a replacement.

One quote so far just for the unit - £296.34 (inc VAT and Delivery)

Anybody know where I can get a replacement that doesn't involve cutting off limbs?

Scrappers? Try GradeA first, then Google Impreza breakers, or look on e-bay.

Thanks for the response...

The £300 quote is the only quote so far from a Breaker Broker website, and I had expected that it was for new. I hadn't found anything on EBay - plenty for a Classic or Bug Eye, a few options for Blob Eye, but absolutely nothing for Hawkeye STI.

Nothing on the Impreza parts sites either - classic or bug eye upgrades but nothing more recent.

GradeA do have one on their Ebay Shop, but it is the wrong side and guess how much they want for it?

For answer see: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza...#ht_1204wt_905

I guess that my existing quote isn't for new after all - it looks like the Main Dealer price when I ask them is going to be several limbs.

Any other options?

Nope, that'll be it.
Unlikely that a car as new as that will have aftermarket lights made for it. And even if it does, they often aren't up to much.

As I've said, Google, ring round.

you will be very lucky if you can pick a second hand hawkeye headlight up for less than £250.

I guess so..

I went to a main dealer - I had to know the new replacement cost.

And it is £750+ for the replacement unit

Fitting is also relatively complex involving dropping the bumper.

Total cost for a brand new replacement fitted at a Subaru dealer: £1,000+

Need to check out my protected no claims on the insurance, as with a service, new tyres and MOT also due it is looking like a very expensive month.
