Any opinions on who's the most helpful & knowledgeable dealer with the best customer support within a reasonable drive from central London?

Chris L 20 March 2001 02:16 PM

Matt

If you're heading toward South London, then Cheam Motors has an excellent reputation (my local main dealer) - details at

Andy Tang 20 March 2001 02:17 PM

Depends what you mean by a reasonable drive, but I have been known to sing the praises of Cheam Motors, Ewell in Surrey.

Give Andrew a call on: 020 8394 2262

JoeyDeacon 20 March 2001 02:21 PM

Can I recommend you steer well clear of Bell & Colvill. I will soon get a chance to find out just how good Cheam motors are as my car is booked in for its 15,000 Mile service and body service there on the 9th of April.

Anybody any idea what coutesy car I can look forward to having?? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Andy Tang 20 March 2001 02:22 PM

Doh, Chris beat me to it!

According to Autoroute, from Central London (Moorgate) to Cheam Motors is about 16 miles.

Hope this helps
Andy

Bought my Scooby last week from Marlborough in Isleworth, just by Twickenham, very nice people and very helpful, you can look em up through the Subaru UK website under Dealers.

Andy Tang 20 March 2001 02:24 PM

Joey,

I've had a 1.6 GL Impreza which was surprisingly nimble and a Justy!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Be warned both will understeer like a b@stard if driven too hard!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Lavender Hill.
Enfield.
Superb.

Keep away from the dealership in Acton.
Unless of course you like being talked down to ...

Chris L 20 March 2001 02:30 PM

Andy - got to be quicker than that http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Joey - get the Justy - big fun http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif - just ask Danny Fisher...

Chris

There is Ace Kensington - the showroom is near Kensington, but their service department is in Acton. Haven't got any real experience of them (will tell you what the service department is like after this weekend!), but I think they are as central to London as you can get for Subaru dealers.

Wilsons of Chadwell Heath have been excellent with me. Had Alcons fitted, had the DS3000/2000 problem sorted out, had a different clutch (available as an option on the 22b uk) looked into, sourced and fitted by them, STI column mounted boost guage etc. Basically Roger over there works his ar$e off for the customer. I've also had a few 'regular' services carried out there with no problems at all. Of course the more you spend the more any dealer likes you I guess http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif .

Chuck

Bajie 20 March 2001 03:43 PM

ACE Kensington.
Used to be a [very good] Saab Dealer.

Pants for Subaru.
Would you take your car to a dealer who doesn't know what models of the car were available [what is a Terzo anyway].
But, as I said, they were very condescending.
If you like that sort of thing ...

I bought mine from there in Dec, I thought the same as you, anything to get the sale in eh! After service is bowl oaks though. I will be putting all future business in way of Cheam Motors. I had made my mind up prior to seeing this tread

I bought my MY98 from ACE Kensington and used them for service until last year when we had a bit of a 'falling out'. As Bajie pointed out, the old service manager I dealt with was great but the guy I dealt with subsequently was pretty rude. I wouldn't recommend them personally, I'm sorry to say http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif.

Since then I have used Cheam motors in Ewell, and their service has been exemplary so far - recommended.

Regards,

Alex

I guess I've been spoilt, I've only used two Subaru dealers, and both have been stunning.

Mill Lane Engineering (Basingstoke) were brilliant, but an 80 mile trip to get your car serviced seemed a bit extreme!!

I've since decided to use Cheam Motors (Ewell) and only having an 8 mile round trip instead is much better!!

Also the 10% SIDC discount did sway me a bit!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I can't fault the service from either!!

Walldonway - Maidstone.

Steve Williams 20 March 2001 08:42 PM

Marlborough in Isleworth....

Bought my scooby from them, very friendly, very knowledgeable........

Not been to them for service yet (not had the car long enough) but had a couple of (very minor) niggles with the car (it was 2nd hand), got them sorted very quickly and efficiently.

No complaints at all.

p.s. The guy I dealt with was Martyn (sales dept) very helpful.

For your info - my car came from Cheam Motors. It has had every service there from new (goes in for the 22.5K on Friday). I've also had the clutch replaced under warranty (Cheam were one of the first to pick up on the leaking/low pressure clutch housing that is the cause of most of the judder problems) - very good job major improvement to the car. I also had a new door and respray after someone caved in my passenger side door - very good job and outstanding paint match (they use a very good third party company to do all their bodywork repairs). Can't fault them so far (should be on commission for this http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif). Speak to Andy for servicing and Jim for parts.

Cheers

Chris

Matt d,

Have we helped you, or confused you???

Andy

matt d 21 March 2001 12:50 PM

Not too confused, nice to get so many replies! Lavender Hill in Enfield seems the best bet so far, with Cheam 2nd (longer drive). I'm interested in people who've experienced things like recalls, fitting aftermarket stuff - basically anything that tells you if they know their stuff or not. My current dealer is friendly, polite, prompt & efficient but when I asked a guy in servicing what oil Subaru recommend for P1s they didn't know, just said get a good synthetic. Also quoted my £400 to respray 4 inches of front spoiler. They've not messed me about, just don't inspire me with confidence that's all!
