hi,

before I start lemme just make it clear I don't condone speeding and that I was stupid...

I have just been caught by a motorway car doing 95mph (they claim) in a 60mph zone (A45). This is my first offence and they said that nothing could be done along the lines of a fixed penalty, it will have to go to the magistrates.

So, what will happen next?

I feel a complete idiot... I just wasn't thinking http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Matt

p.s. anyone wanna scoob so I can pay the fine sob sob

Oh, and let me just add...
I didn't get given a producer or any documentation of any kind, I didn't have to sign anything and didn't get shown any evidence of my supposed speed through video camera, vascar or radar etc...

Sorry to hear it M8.

Get in touch with a good solicitor...letter from employer if applicable....and hope that the magistrates are in a good mood...if so...one large fine and possible 6+ points me thinks...

Good luck mate, I'm sure that the conditions were safe for your speed. We all do it, from time to time, you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

quote:
There's a superb brief who specialises in motoring offenses. I believe he's got a number of porsche owners off serious speeds(130+). Anyone remember his number? It was on scoobynet a while back.

mattski 19 March 2001 09:12 PM

cheers z80, .... from what I can gather if I get anything at all it should be along the lines of 6 points and a fine... just gotta sit tight and dread the post for six months...sigh!

GRANT 19 March 2001 09:21 PM

Matt,
Sorry about what was a bit of bad luck we all do it at times as Dave says.
Got caught a few years ago doing 96 in a 60 along the A14 going towards Norwich.
It must have been my lucky day because, after showing me the video,I admitted speeding got £40 fixed fine and 3points.
Alot of the time it is down to the copper along with any prevailing conditions.

Sorry to hear mate.

Happens to the best (and worst?) of us.

Mine was many (many, many) years ago, doing 54 in a 30.
Got £50 fine and 3 points.

Hopefully you will only get points and a fine, and not banned for any time, I think you will be very lucky to get away scott free (sorry).

Let us know the outcome, BTW was it a 'marked' car?

mattski 19 March 2001 10:00 PM

Grant...

Interesting comment re: showing you the video. They didn't show me *anything*. I didn't get shown video, vascar, radar gun, nothing. In addition I never got a producer or ticket. Did you get any paperwork at all?

Steve...

I am preparing myself for the worst so hopefully it will be a case of points etc. WRT being a marked car, yes it was a marked traffic car (Volvo T5). I'll let you know the outcome once I know!

nevr 20 March 2001 12:02 PM

was the 60 a temporary limit or not.Depends on how you may be dealt with. Were you cautioned and given a verbal notice of intended prosecution. if yes then expect a summons through the post, if you showed your driving licence and other docs then no need for a producer. Try to find out what court may cover the area you got caught, see if any others have been caught and gone to that court for an idea of how they deal with speeders, suprising the difference between courts

mattski 20 March 2001 06:55 PM

Thanks Nevr...

I was cautioned verbally and did show my photocard driving license.

I have also learned that I will loose my job (and all the hassle associated with it) if I loose my license. This will also affect a relative I take to work / pick up from work every day.

To make matters worse the office I currently work in (in Coventry) will close and I shall probably have to transfer to Leicester. A real headache as I live in a rural area.

And... (can it get any worse?). The place where I was stopped has had the speed limit dropped to 50mph (announced on local radio this morning).

I checked if there where any posted speed limits and when I got pulled (sunday) there WAS NOT any posted limits, they have only appeared within the last couple of days.

Sigh...

ta,
Matt

RonaldoH 20 March 2001 08:09 PM

Matt, chill.

It looks like they have screwed up.

R

mattski 20 March 2001 09:28 PM

we'll see Ron... I still have your pint here btw http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

the more I think about it the more it's doing me sweed in (all part of the punishment I know). They did give me a verbal NIP and read my rights so I should expect something in the post (apparently).

GRANT 20 March 2001 09:40 PM

Mat,
Firstly things always look worse at the time they happen although I know that that is no consollation.
I got caught along time ago but from what I remember the officer asked wether I was willing to accept a fixed penalty at which point I readily said yes and then was duly given a producer and had to hand my licence in at the local cop shop.
Took 10 weeks to get my license back.
Have to tell you what I do remeber was when I went to the cop shop the guy was very understanding and had just been caught that day and for him it was alot worse being a copper.
