Project track car something for the weekend !

Well after alot of research and contemplation i have finally decided to go ahead with turning my00 classic turbo into a track car.
The engine is an EJ25 running with a simtec ecu remapped by duncan at race dynamics.
Currently fitted is a TD04 soon to be changed with a vf-43 when located for the right one.
A new Hybrid GT fmic from harvey will also be installed later next month.
TEIN coilovers ,with K sport front brake kit (scoobyworld) soon after.
I drove the car for the last time on the road today and started stripping out the interior seats door cards, trim ,carpets etc... suprisingly enough with my mate giving a helping hand it didnt take that long.
Tommorow is the start of removing all the sound deadening on the floors heard lots of grief with this stuff but il try anything once and should help interior spray at a later date, ready for roll cage.

It comes off real easy, use a blunt screwdriver and a hammer, its chips real easy leaving little or no residue.
Wipe the excess residue off with thinners.

What colour spraying inside? White would look good i think. Get pics up!!

leecalcars 22 January 2011 03:39 PM

Well been down the garage most of the day hammering away at the sound deadening, as you say comes off quite easily with a screwdriver and a hammer still a bit more to do ,passenger footwell done all the rear boot done just the drivers footwell then a good wipe down with thinners for the last few bits.
Stripped out all the headlining and waste water pipes from sunroof wiring and brackets, maybe getting a new roof skin without sunroof hole just goto drill out spot welds and pops out replace with new roof painted black.

I'm getting a quote on monday from a motorsport company in selby who install weld in rollcages to FIA standereds, seen one today in a rally car and they have done a fantastic job so going down that route instead of the bolt-in type (cusco dash dodger).

Il post pics up soon on progress when i get round to it lots to do!

Also ripped out pull cables for boot opener easy enough job and the cables look brand new so more small items to sell along with every trim you can think of.

Yes white is going on the inside same as the rollcage .

Lee - just a word of warning on the white interior ... mine is sprayed white inside and it is superb but you need to put some dark material on the rear parcel shelf cover else you will not be able to see through the rear view mirror because of the glare.

Apart from that ... it is perfect :)

Is it best to take out the rear bulkhead and cage will be mounted ontop of rear struts.

HKS hypermax 2 coilovers bought should be fitting those next weekend when i get chance a bit more sound deadening removal and cut back some of the wiring loom thats no longer needed.

dynamix 25 January 2011 07:50 PM

I'd keep some kind of rear bulkhead in there if only to cut down on interior noise - it gets VERY noisey in the car anyway.

earplugs under helmet should do the trick ha ha !

Update:

Been down the garage today and removed all the suspension p1 springs and kyb struts, front disc's and 4 pot callipers.

I have purchased some sti alloy wishbones with whiteline anti-lift kits these are going to be shotblasted before install to make nice and clean!
New front drop links ordered whitline again as with front 22mm arb, then to fit HKS coilovers (hypermax 2).
Wheels were in to remove old rubber ready for shot blasting and powder coating 2 pack bright white looking forward to fitting new toyo t1r 888's later on next month pics before and after to follow.
Got a small drive over to chester later on today to pick up alloy bonnet that is also going in for paint matt black when small crease has been removed from front edge.

Also had a bash at removing old guages and wiring that had obviously been put in by a blind man on drugs with more insulation tape than i use in a year(and im a sparky).lol
After chester a quick dart over to manchester to meet phil ( AKA oh flock) for facelift das he has flocked for me of which il be dropping of my centre pod for free flocking top man!

You will not need to clean the sti wishbones

PAS 30 January 2011 08:08 AM

I also have new CDF racing front and rear droplinks that go well with the sti wishbones and a new set of anodised blue lightweight engine pulley set from CDF racing.

Good luck with the strip down Did mine over 5 years ago now

Update;

Been down the garage most of the day so today i decided i was going to take the old dash out ready for the flocked one to go in when roll cage has been welded in place.
I also removed the heater matrix as this will not be needed and takes up so much room behind the dash also alot of weight so had too go .
Removing the dash was a bit of a pain as i had to get my old man from his comfy chair as i think its really a 2 man job but we got there eventually, everything seemed to have to come out first before removal firstly was the clocks 2 screws fastening the facia panel, 3 screws and a couple of plugs and she was out then for the heater consol disconnected the 3 blue pull cords for control unplugged the hazard and washer switches and she came out ,didnt realise till the end when all screws were out that the dash still didnt budge as there is a panel right up tight to the windscreen were 2 screws was hiding behind bingo unplugged all the air bag wires and out she came to expose everything.

I also disconnected the airbag ecu and unplugged all the yellow (protected) wire covers from the ecu and 2 to each of the front plugs under inner wings all gone now.
The blower part of the heater system has been removed as will the water matrix when i disconnect the pipe next time im at the garage ,but by removing all this has given me more room to relocate things such as ecu ,relays etc.. and also will allow easier acces for wiring new gauges and battery cut off switch ,push button start etc..
