Planning restriction re brick wall
A friend of mine wants to build a brick wall down the side of his house & his back garden. His garden backs onto a car park for flats & he's sick of people looking in & annoying his dog. He stays in one of these wimpy style estates.
His plan is to either build a 6ft fence with gravel boards so its slightly higher up or a 6ft'sh brick wall. There is a fence there already but he wants to close board it although he'd prefere the wall. Is there any restrictions on doing this ? |
There may be a height restriction of 2 metres but he should check with the council anyway. Could save a lot of cash if he had got it wrong.

Yes, check with the local council (they all have different rules).
In Scotland a fence or wall will generally require planning permission if it's: 1) >1m and any part is within 20m of a public road 2) >2m anywhere else Hedges don't need planning permission which is why they cause so much trouble! Mark |
Also worth checking if there are any coventents in place
