head gasket failure

hi guys excuse my ignorance but if ur head gasket was away how long would it run for and would any symptoms jump out at u?
reason im askin is i went to see a blue classic the other day, guy took me a run in it but only 5 mins. car seemed fine to me but i dont have a clue about cars just know how to drive them lol. i have now been told that someone else seen it advertised a few months ago with a blown head gasket and am worried incase its fooked and i end up with it

hg failure is sometimes hard to spot, but when mine went car will not pull very well was missfiring there will be white/grey steam smoke present from exhaust, uses water etc:

If in doubt, walk away.

There are plenty out there and it is a buyers market. You might find it advantageous to take a knowledgeable mate with you to view. Buyer beware.

As above. If you aren't 100%, don't buy. They are an expensive car to run without buying problems.....:(
