Front Mount Needed For 340BHP + ?

Hi all, i have not long got my subaru impreza turbo 2000 its bog standerd with a ppp on it.. im planning to get between 340-380 ish bhp with all supporting mods

would i NEED a front mount? would it benefit my car and is there any down sides to a front mount?

thanks all help appreciated

P1#1015 16 January 2011 11:17 PM

At 340 no you dont NEED a front mount, 380 is more towards the borderline although many have done it. What will the car be used fror?

classicgc8 16 January 2011 11:18 PM

hi jamie welcome to s/n it might be helpful if you list your intended mods too then maybe the forum can advise you better

JamieJerkovic 16 January 2011 11:23 PM

just general road use i obv wont be flooring it everywere just nice to have the power if i need it ;) haha

well i have jus fitted a full decat exhaust system.. then over the coming months im going to be looking at uprated fuel pumps.. injectors.. bigger turbo and a ecutek remap.
i am a amatuer as this is my first scooby as im only jus turned 20! i read alot about fmic that increases turbo lag etc..

si2000 16 January 2011 11:24 PM

If you think you may go to 380 and then more in the future then go fmic, it will just future proof it :thumb:

JamieJerkovic 16 January 2011 11:24 PM

so i am not sure weather this would benefit my car in anyway.. ive read that to get a sti8 tmic you need the sti scoop for it to work to its full potential think was posted by Harvey

classicgc8 16 January 2011 11:26 PM

yep harvey does lots of testing if he posted that is likely to be spot on mate.fmic may be the way forwards for you

JamieJerkovic 16 January 2011 11:28 PM

then again im not after top end speed as im not going to be going like 150mph very often if not atall... jus after accelleration and getting there lol

Better budget for a gearbox as well.

They work well up to around 420 but your still better off with a fmic. The extra lag is marginal if any realy :thumb:

:D 350 hp /400 torque max or so i read ? ty754 box

JamieJerkovic 16 January 2011 11:33 PM

i dont mind spending money really.. i love at home and out goings are minimal lol which is amazing! whats a good gear box to get? which could handle that sort of power

si2000 16 January 2011 11:36 PM

BHP does not break gearboxes its the torque, 754 gearboxes can be reliable up to around the 380-400 lbft mark but it is still risky.

thoughts on vf34, vf35 and vf48 turbos?

JamieJerkovic 16 January 2011 11:37 PM

so fmic it is then?

vf34/35 are good for up to 340-350bhp. vf48 will see 370-380 with good supporting mods.

wrx fifer 17 January 2011 12:38 AM

i run a vf35 and the ones you have mentioned are all very similar in terms of when they max out all around the 350 ish mark and it sounds like your really wanting to push the power out there, if its just a uk turbo you would be better thinking about engine internals, clutch and gearbox i think, as if you go doing everything you have spoken about without any of that you may end up in trouble, again depending what power you are planning eventually.
6 speed sti box:thumb:

Use a mapper that knows what he is doing and you wont notice hardly any extra lag with a fmic, its all about the right mapping and setup.

Dynamix is well recommended by J-Autos

JAutos 17 January 2011 12:46 AM

Also 5 speed box is on borrowed time after 350bhp in my opinion obviously depending on torque.
Go for a 6 speed conversion from an sti. The link below may suit

JamieJerkovic 17 January 2011 07:52 PM

So say if I jus wanted to get near the 340 bhp mark would a front mount be beneficail? Or would it be a waste of time? I've heard Jolly Green Monsters a mapper.. He's done a friends subaru impreza

Soo fmic or no?

harvey 17 January 2011 08:22 PM

Whether you need a front mount or not will depend on the air charge temperatures you are seeing. This is determined by air flow through the scoop, the efficiency of the intercooler and the turbo in use.
If the turbo is running close to its maximum ability you are more likely to need a front mount.
In your case beyond 300 bhp and there will be clear benefits from an efficient front mount. Anybody that advocates running one of these cars at 340 bhp or above without a front mount has either never done it or never measured their air charge temperatures.

Jay m A 17 January 2011 08:38 PM

320-330 can be had with minimal outlay, anything more and you might as well go for 400+ since everthing has to uprated if you want it to last - FMIC, injectors, clutch, gearbox...

But to get 330 is relatively easy

Full decat turbo back
port headers, de-cat uppipe
Walboro fuel pump
Adjustable FPR
Newage TMIC
STI panel filter
VF35 or similar, personally I'd get a front entry TD05
Remap

That will get you 320-330HP road car. Your clutch should cope, if not an OE STI one will do the job. If you were to track it I'd change the top mount to a FMIC.

All IMO

JamieJerkovic 17 January 2011 08:58 PM

Okay.. Thanks for all the help and replys!

Ill do the supporting mods first get it remapped etc.. Put it on a rolling road and see what output I have. How do I go about checking air charge temperatures?
Which will then give me a answer to my questoin.. Fmic or not :D

JamieJerkovic 17 January 2011 08:59 PM

And Harvey what are your prices on FMIC + fitting?

harvey 18 January 2011 12:21 PM

GT is £325
GT2 £375
New Age £395.
