2.5 uk jdm

Hi can you get jdm 2.5s on later models and is it possible to get the uk models pushing the same bhp as jdms with a simple remap.

silverfox72 16 January 2011 09:44 PM

i had a map done on my 06 wrx - ok is first of the 2.5's - decat, sti intercooler, k&n panel filter and she is somewhere around the 285 mark - rapid spool up from the td04 makes it a cracking quick road car. Duncan from Race Dynamix is the man for the job...

L.J.F 16 January 2011 09:49 PM

Jdm cars are 2.0 only mate, the 2.5 is is for the uk market. The newage 2.5 engine has been prone to several problems with failures and would recommend you read up on this first.

a 2.5 litre Sti with decat, panel filter, etc (minimal mods) will get up around 350bhp following a re map

uk or jdm, thats if they do jdm on 2.5 hawks later ones.

TonyBurns 16 January 2011 10:41 PM

All JDM Impreza's from 2003 model year are 2ltr, all JDM STI's from that year onwards are 2ltr twin scroll units, no 2.5 JDM Impreza's unless its been done aftermarket (as per the Type 25 Litchfield cars).

Tony:)

stevie1982 16 January 2011 10:45 PM

Mate as said a JDM is only available as a 2.0ltr

The UK car from start to 2005 was a 2.0ltr

and from the 2006 model onwards only came as a 2.5ltr

The only way to get a JDM with a 2.5ltr is to fit one yourself or buy

A litchfield TYPE 25 from 2003 - to current hatch model (I think) if not till the hawkeye, as litchfiled took the JDM model or Spec C and with the sucsess of the Type 20 designed the same thing but fitted a 2.5ltr lump and called it a TYPE25

everton 16 January 2011 10:59 PM

The uk cars are well down in power tho to the jdms will a remap sort this out or is the alot to it. I know the gear boxed are different for starts.

Cannon Fodder 16 January 2011 11:09 PM

I hate to contradict some of the other posters on here but the latest JDM A Line model Impreza's do have the 2.5 litre engine fitted. :lol1:

Suberman 17 January 2011 12:58 AM

^ Yes that right. And also the Forester STI :D if you consider that an impreza with great ground clearance.

There's a lot to it, no, a remap alone will not sort this out

Greg :)

Yes, just seen this car, its rather gay as it doesnt even have Recaros!

TonyBurns 17 January 2011 07:36 AM

Recaro's are an option, I dont even want to mention the A-Line, its an auto  though I will add all the JDM 2ltr twin scrolls are Manual ;):D

Tony:D

So is it possible that you were not fully aware of all the facts? ;)

TonyBurns 17 January 2011 09:57 AM

No I had decided not to remember that one as its an auto :lol1:

If the OP is thinking that a mildly modded UK STi will be just as good as a JDM, think again :smug: Get a JDM one & be done with it.

Probably one of the top 3 questions in SN. :lol1:

Briefly.

JDM has over UK

0.5L less engine capacity
large port heads
better cams
8000 rpm redline
shorter gear ratios
twinscroll turbo
drive by cable
rear wiper
privacy glass
235 section tyres (MY05 >)

All of which makes it the better car in most situation.

TurboAndy 18 January 2011 02:46 PM

What Suberman said. Get a JDM you wont regret it.

Is the suspension different from UK STi's? What different engine components result in the fact that UK ST's have occasional head gasket failures whereas JDM's don't?

everton 18 January 2011 10:24 PM

only one problem there really hard to find, looked all over the trader ect and cant find any. They are all uk 2.5s or uk spec.

Terminator X 18 January 2011 11:18 PM

^^ Indeed! Few years ago we were tripping over the fecking things ;)

TX.

Edit - quite a few here!

andythejock01wrx 18 January 2011 11:47 PM

So are PCM & Litchfield the only dealers that specialise in them?

I believe the springs are different Andy. I can't confirm this though.:wonder: Are the head gaskets that much weaker than the JDMs?:wonder::lol1: I don't know much about the head gasket issues, i've always thought only the pistons are the problem area.

Yup, Head gaskets from 2006 on. Consensus seems to be that pistons are only really a problem on 2008 on, although 2006 & 2007 don't like turbo upgrades on std pistons.

Are you a shift worker or an owl? ;)
