How to limit the torque ?!
Hi everyone, it's me again with my strange questions :)
I'm building 1,6 turbo engine (peugeot 1.6 16v) using td04 turbo After driving the car few days i found it very undrivable with that abount of torque (producing 270nm on 0.75 with that turbo) so here's my question... What exaclty creates the torque in a turbo engine ? Is it true that the smaller the turbo and the quicker spool up makes the torque to grow ? My idea is - is there any way to extract mostly horse power from the turbo with some method of limiting the torque ? The turbo lag is not a problem for me so if there's a way to make is just spooling slower i'll be very happy. It'll be very nice because the car will be much drivable and with less stress on the gearbox and clutch thanks to everyone who help :) |
Boost = Torque.
Run less boost. |
ok, let's ask it like that - how to shift my torque courve in the upper rev range and make it more smooth ? is it possible at all with small turbo ?
|
Taper the boost so it does not peak till higher in the rev range, that is how simon mapped my car but still made 522bhp.
|
as RA Dunk says, run less boost. Just map it so that it doesnt make high boost until higher engine speeds.
With a turbo and good mapping you can move the torque curve around to suit how you want the car to drive ( within system limits of course ). |
i presume i'll need electronic boost control to tapper the boost ?

Depends on what ecu you are using..
