Great weekend s work there. Good news you stopped the rear shockers from knocking and save a few bob too. To be honest I don't have the technical knowhow whatsoever to even contemplate such a project.
Front lights look good too, again I wouldn't personally attempt it though:( I'd be worried about damaging them. Especially when it comes to sealing them back up.

It's maybe not a job that you'd want to take on as a first ever DIY job but to be honest with the right tools the job itself is fairly straight forward. I never once had to reach for the impact gun and none of my tools are professional standard (Halfrauds and Clarke mostly!). A decent sized vice, the £30 pass-through ratchet set and a good tap proved the most handy.

As for the lights, I think anyone that has done the splitting will tell you how wrong it feels to watch a £450+ plastic part go in an oven. 9 mins at 110c made them hot to touch but no hotter than the backs get from a spirited drive on a hot day IMO and bulbs are don't forget how hot bulbs get when in use. To be honest the worst part is getting them off the car... I'm so pleased i now need to do that again for the indicator bulbs! :brickwall

Can anybody recommend any good insurance companies for a modded Spec D? Mine is due next month and most insurance companies don't want to know. I'm with A plan at the moment. I tried Adrian Flux last year but they were dearer.

Not much help on the Insurance John... I'm on a multicar deal so hard to know how competitive the price is.
I think it comes down to how you want the mods insured. Aplan and Adrian Flux seem to give the best cover that actually insures the value of the mods but that of course comes at a higher price.
On previous scoobs with very minor mods I've gone via Elephant. You declare the mods but they don't cover the cost to replace if higher than stock e.g if you declare a front splitter and have a front ender theey will pay to replace the bumper but not the splitter (without penalising you for adding the splitter in the first place). Like anything with insurance its just a gamble!

As for the pics I use photobucket - If you have an Iphone or Android based phone there are options via apps that are pretty easy (even for a dinasaur ;) ).

Sky Instrance might be another good one to try if your car is modded - think they only quote over the phone.

Can anybody help with this one? I've noticed the spec d seems to rev quickly from 3-5k in third. I thought at first that the clutch was going but I nailed it a few times in first and second and there was no problem. My mate who is into his cars and has a stage 3 Leon K2 seems to think that it might be something to do with the map or a leaking boost valve. It's not major but I have noticed a slight change in power delivery in 3rd.
If it is the clutch can anybody suggest the best solution for a new clutch? Some forums suggest stock, saying non stock can damage the gearbox?

Looks like a great event but probably a little far out of reach for a southerner like me sadly. Not so much the mileage is it is the fuel & overnight costs. Google reckons £43.26 in fuel for the 210 miles to get there.... how i laughed! Shame though as a mini spec-d gathering would be good some time now we've got a few (I guess we could let Jake come even with his "Spec-C-D" :p).

I'd give a specialist a Scoob specialist a call John. It's the right rev band to be the clutch but I'd of thought it'd slip in one and two as well. How many miles has the current clutch done? I have an organic competition clutch which API fitted when I had the rebuild. I can't remember what power figures it'll take (450bhp iirc) but is fine for day to day use on my stock engine. The 6 speed Sti box is hard as nails and people run it on big power which a stock clutch could never cope with so I'm not sure why anyone would think an aftermarket would mess it up (as long as its not some knock off from flee-bay of course).

It saved me £350 on last years premium and all modifications insured as well! :luxhello:As for the clutch problem Pete at Prosport in Stockport nearly set fire to the clutch when "testing" it! It's definitely on the way out. I've gone for an AP Racing organic racing clutch with a refurbed flywheel. It's cleaned me out :razz:hopefully no other repairs pending. Won't be able to make the event in Ripon as I'm away that weekend. Are there anymore later in the year?

There tatton classic car show coming up in July which is always good to have a walk round. CADS normally have a proper display there. But Im afraid its park with the masses in the general car park if you are not displaying.

Picked up the scoobe tonight from the bodyshop.
Dents man has been on it, as well little bit of paint here and there and the full buffing treatment

Speaking of Warren.... looking good mate! All been a bit quiet on the Spec-D front! All I have to write about is a failed secondary air pump that I now need to get out of there for blanking off/remap. Looks like a dog of a job if you don't have a commercial garage and a bunch of tools!

There is a lot info about the air pump change here and there but no clear 'how to' for the 2006 Sti (and it seems the hatches are a different setup and easier). All the pics in the threads I have seen make it really hard to work out what the hell you are looking at unless you are mid-job.

Pump itself is easy to get too/remove and one of the 2 valves looks doable on the drive. The TMIC has to come off for sure but the second valve looks like a total PITA. Suggestions on other forums say its only possible via downpipe removal and even inlet manifold too. Others say that is total overkill if you have enough extension bars and angle joints for your sockets. I have a fair few but you can be sure I'd get half into it and THEN find the last 3 bolts impossible to get to.

The only saving grace is, for now, I have simply pulled the relay that drives the faulty pump motor (to stop it burning out and setting the car alight!). It has no affect on performance but just means I have an engine management light on until I blank them and get the system mapped out.

Such an arse given the system is only in use for 5 mins on cold start up and only needed to pass the California strict emissions tests! Last I checked I was a looooooong way from the California sunshine! :Suspiciou

Still what with HG failure/engine re-build, rear shock knock, threaded brembos bolts and now the air pump issue I should be running out of 2.5 related gremlins to repair! (f*cking well better be!!).

Dents man came out to it and pulled out nearly 25 little dents, I didn't even realise it had that many on it. Considering it was always a very tidy car to start with. Also the nasty dent at the corner of the passenger door was to bad for dents man so that at was repaired in the normal maner, as there were a few scuffs too on the bottom of the doors, the bottom of the doors has been blown over. the scuff on the front valance was also sorted too. In the end I had it done locally in stockport, by Rick Singleton that a mate of mine recommended. He's done a really good job, but I'm sure no better than what you guys could had done for me.:thumb:

Haven't got any pictures yet but will do soon. She is completely standard AFAIK but I have ordered myself a front lip off eBay, need to get it sprayed up and then fitted. Can you fit these yourself and if so how long does it take?

So mine has got a knocking rear shock surprise surprise lol need to get that sorted and possibly throw some springs on, to make it look a touch lower, at the same time. Any recommendations?

I am based over Leicester are there any decent places that I can take it to to have the work done? I am hoping it won't cost too much.

Read over the last few pages of this thread and you will see how to fix the strut knock without the cost of replacing them if you fancy a stock setup.

It depends on how comfortable/equipt you are for DIY mechanics but it really isn't 'that' bad of a job with a bit of prep.
If you aren't fitting it yourself you might be best looking at coilovers as they come complete and you/the garage you use don't need to go through the extra time of removing/refitting springs. Fixing the knock on stock shocks (via grease inserts) at a garage will be an easy £200 I'd say and they won't guarentee the work.

Scoobyworld are in Leicester - never had work done but I've ordered from them before and I've heard good things. According to their website they will fit Springs and/or Coilovers for £199.99 labour (plus the parts you buy).

Either that or travel 45 mins to Southam and you are at API who have done all my work and are regarded as one of the best in the business.

Front lip I believe is an easy DIY fit but I've not got one (yet) so others here can comment on that (I think it also depends on what type you have).

Stock Spec-D Wheels are Enkei's not BBS.
