95 wrx classic Boost control?
 
Hello all, My WRX is boosting at dead on 20psi, It has been chipped though, I have been driving it carefully as it has a few teething problems and is a bit of a project, Now I checked the bottom pipe coming off the BCS and there was no restrictor pill:eek: So I fitted a 2mm pill, Then a 3mm, Then a 1.5mm I made from a welding tip and none of these made any difference:wonder: It still boosted away to 20psi, So I tried adjusting actuator arm almost to the point where the wastegate is only just shut off boost and still no difference:brickwall Now am I being thick here? Is this because the chip I have is maybe set to run 20psi or should everything I have done still of adjusted the boost?

Also forgot to say I have tried another boost gauge just to confirm it was not this, My reasons for above are I would like to turn the boost down to around 16-17psi if possible, I think 20psi is just too much without getting it checked on a rolling road, The previous owner had no knowledge of the car and had lost all the history and I don't want it to go bang:D

bang a dawes device on it, 20psi seems alot from a chipped ecu.

Thats what I thought, My other one is chipped but boost's to 16psi which is what the chip is mapped for, I might just have to do what you said just to turn it down a bit:thumb:

i would, then get it checked out, do you know for sure that ecu is chipped?

Connect the pipe from the actuator to the turbo, this will set it at the default for the Actuator (if the arm is adjusted properly), then that should be 6psi iirc.
Thats should see if its working.

Then have you got the BCS connected properly, and also plugged in??

I had major overboost issues and mine only got to 15psi, and now a steady 13psi (have a 1995 import on Z4 ecu).

Also where is your boost gauge plumbed onto?? Took mine of the D/V pipe as everywhere else casued issues.

What ECU is it as this is the standard figs for a 1995 import Z4.
Borrowed from a b13bat post elsewhere.

Z4 ECU 1995/1996 WRX – 12.7PSI (0.9BAR),
DROPPING TO 11.7PSI (0.8BAR) @ 6600RPM
- FUEL CUT 15.65PSI (1.08BAR) - 260PS (256 BHP) – 7250RPM

To be honest I didn't believe the bloke as He didn't seem to know what he was talking about so I opened it up and there is a chip fitted, No markings on it though, It does feel a bit quicker than my other one but just don't trust it:D I have never seen another chip mapped for 20psi? The fact that the restrictor pill didn't make a difference is also strange:wonder:

It's a u8 ecu, It has a chip fitted but don't know who by or what make it is? No markings on it?

If the actuator pipe is off then the turbo will be at constant maximum boost.

I`ve made 4 or 5 different drawing of it in the last 3 weeks, as everytime I forget.

Also I had to change an actuator as the diaphragm had gone so wasn`t allowing boost at all, as soon as there was anything over a vacuum, it opened lol.

I took mine off the other car earlier without taking note of where the pipes went so had to look it up incase the one on the new car was piped up wrong:brickwall lol
