Not a happy bunny.

After all the issues and problems I`ve been having with this damn car, after replacing nearly everything on the car.

I have YET ANOTHER ISSUE!!! Oh Joy.

Driving today off boost just pootling to a appointment I had, heard a funny noise and felt as if the rear brakes had come on a touch and caused the back end to twitch, then no drive at all.

Tried moving and engine revs, and sounds like something has popped off either inside or somewhere else. If I put it in reverse the box sounds like its reversing with the usual whine, but a clicky noise and nothing.

If I`m on the flat she will move, but very slowly and with a noise.
Just hope its not the box as she`s only just gone in, apart from that she`s been fine.

So yet another recovery on a RAC truck lol.

Jimbob 11 January 2011 09:28 PM

Anyone got any idea on what this new problem is???

Could the first motion shaft has broke mate?

Its the shaft that protrude's from out the gearbox and go's through the clutch plate, basically transfers the engine's power to the gearbox to make it move.

The Trooper 1815 11 January 2011 09:49 PM

Rear Diff?

Think thats ok as the clutch works, and I do get some drive, just a tiny amount.

To me it seems as if the Centre diff may be furbarred, or similar.

Just a question, if I were to remove one drive shaft from say the front, what would the consequences be??

Jimbob 12 January 2011 12:38 AM

Which gear ratio is the TY754VN1AA??
3.454 1.947 1.366 0.972 0.738 3.416 1.000 4.111
3.166 1.882 1.296 0.972 0.738 3.333 1.000 4.444

Also what would happen to the car from a driveability point of view IF the rear diff let go??

Jimbob 12 January 2011 04:23 PM

Bump.

smokingkills 12 January 2011 04:29 PM

You could try posting in "Technical" for a better response. When you replaced your gearbox did you have a matching rear diff?

Yeah true.

The Diff is the one from my TY752VB3FA which was apparently the same as the box fitted now TY754VN1AA??

I do have the Diff from the TY754 box, just that when the box went it the rear diff matched.

What would a dead rear diff do to the car??

TurboAndy 12 January 2011 09:49 PM

If your rear dif has gone you will have very little or no drive as the drive power is taking the easy option and going where there is least resistance ie the back.

Stupid question but you say you have just put a new box it. have you defo conected all the front shaft on propperly? if one has came off or even just pulled the stub shaft out this can cause the same effect.

TY752VB3FA (jap import 4.1 final drive) has a different final drive to TY754VN1AA (uk 3.54 final drive). I expect that what your experiencing is a blown diff due to the strain. Try the diff which you bought with the box.

Dylan on here did it and I`m 100% confident he did it right, as I`ve been under and looked and everything seems ok.

TBH cos I couldn`t find the full ratios for the TY754VN1AA it was an unknown and the diffs apparently have the same ratio?? Dunno. :wonder:

Will have to get her up my drive and change it to see, as I have it here.

AFAIK its on axle stands, and then remove propshaft, then undo the diff, and drop and then remove drive shafts and replace. Anything I`ve missed??

ALi-B 12 January 2011 10:59 PM

Without knowing the model year spec, really its difficult to say, but it sounds like it could well be a broken driveshaft. If so, not so bad.

It maybe AWD, but it will barely move with a broken driveshaft be it front or rear axle.

Especially if its got viscous type centre and rear diffs; they don't provide enough lock-up to drive three wheels. ;)

Drop the oil from your diff first or you will have a flood on your hands when you remove your shafts.

Sweet, I`ve 75/90 here. Thats ok iirc??

Also the new diff is it a case of fill it up and then leave the nut out, and level it and leave it drain to the fluid is level with the hole, then fit the nut??

Glowplug 12 January 2011 11:20 PM

Fukkin 'ell Jimbob, only just seen this.

Not having a lot of luck mate are ya! ;)

Nope. Not at all. lol.

Considering I`ve changed the engine, gearbox, suspension, full interior, brakes all round, lights. And to get so close after the boost issues lol. AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

Anyone wanna buy a Fully Forged (Roger Clarke reciepted parts), Semi Closed Deck 2.0 Turbo TD05 1995 WRX Import (engine previously mapped to 376bhp), Roger Clarke pulleys (blue), FULL blue Samco hosing inc intercooler, Walbro 255 fuel pump, Roger Clarke Super light flywheel, Roger Clarke uprated oil pump, Helix Autosport clutch, STI interior, STI lights, KYB adjustible dampers with Pi springs, Godspeed refurbed 4 pots, with Godspeed grooved disks all round with Carbon Kevlar pads all round, Goodridge yellow brake hoses, short gear shifter and Tegiwa gearknob, and TY754VN1AA gearbox, Decat bellmouthed downpipe, Straight through centre section, Jun front lip, front fogs, H4R HID bi-xenon conversion, new radiator and heater matrix, full blue silicon vacuum hoses??

Just needs paint, wheel refurb, and a rear diff lol.

(only joking she`s NOT for sale)lol.

Considering she was a wreck when I bought her, with a dead engine, dead box, wrecked interior, brakes shot, and sat like a speedboat with front 9ft higher than the rear.

Its starting to get a bit frustrating lol.

Yeah that will do fine.

You should have 2 bungs on the back plate of your diff. half inch breaker bar will remove them, Drain the old oil out then replace the bottom bung, make sure car is leavel and fill till its coming out of the top hole, screw in bung and jobs done.

NO DRIVE happened to me .

Jimbob 23 January 2011 10:03 PM

Looks like its my FRONT diff gone.

Jack the rear end up off the floor and turn a wheel the other spins the opposite way, and there is resistance when holding one and turning it.
Also the wheels turn when engine running and in gear.

Jack the front up and totally different ball game.
3 wheels on floor and wheel turns with my little finger.
Both fronts off the floor and can turn either which ever way, and has no effect on the other.

Heres a vid of the sound lol.

REALLY NOT HAPPY.
